      Entry Level Management Trainee Interview

      20 Jul 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Phoenix, AZ
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at SUMMIT (AZ) (Phoenix, AZ) in Jul 2018

      Interview

Avoid this company. Summit (AZ) is a "marketing and advertising" company that employs door-to-door sales people. The product they want you to sell: Internet and Cable for Century link & Direct TV. The interview process: 3 round interview process - 2 in person and 1 over the phone. Shortly after arriving at the office you will be taken into a room by someone posing as a hiring manager. This interview is a form of preliminary screening to gauge, what you know about the company and what you're getting yourself into. They will ask you if you've taken a look at the website (no info on there about their products, job descriptions, etc.), what you've heard about the company, and your familiarity with fiber optics. They will avoid talking about the company's history, actual job description, scope of responsibility, or even what they do on a day-today basis. Replying only with: "We'll go into that if you're considered for a second interview." I made it to a second interview (which was 15 minutes after the first). This time you'll be in a room with 2 people. Now that you've made it to the next round of interviews, the pair will dive into the job a little. They will present you with 2 pieces of paper. 1 provides the ladder to management with an expected timeline, as well as vague descriptions of your role in each stage. An example taken from the sheet: "Apply oneself to move to trainer within 2-4 weeks." -Again no description of what you actually do yet. The second piece of paper will contain graphs made from MS paint, with a snippet of revenue expectations for an office. The document is supposed to 'wow' you with million dollar revenue streams ($7.5m/ office), with the expectation you will get a large commission. After reviewing the documents, the pair will finally come forward and mention "face to face" sales. The company claims they will provide you with leads, uncapped commissions, non-traditional work hours (12pm-8pm), huge potential (make upwards of $250,000 in 6 months), etc. - Basically trying to capture young and naive people, with promises of the world. After prying and asking the correct questions, you'll find out: 1. Pay is hourly and minimum wage. 2. Your "leads" are actually just houses within the service areas of Century Link and DTV. 3. You will be knocking on doors in the hopes of catching people after they've gotten home from work (Hence the 12-8 schedule). 4. Your pitch is to be no more than 10 minutes (no presentation and no idea who your client is). 5. The people interviewing you are sales people, who were hired just weeks before you. They will pass the info onto the actual hiring manager. The final interview is via telephone regarding compensation and lack of benefits. Save yourself some time and effort, pass on this company.
