      Product Designer Interview

      16 Feb 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Sampler

      Interview

The interview process was pretty straight forward and pleasant as well. I enjoyed meeting a number of team members and seeing the office (pre-pandemic). Everyone was very friendly and transparent with everything.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Just generic designer questions like talking about past experiences and diving into projects you've worked on before.

      Product Designer Interview

      4 Aug 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Sampler (Toronto, ON) in Jul 2020

      Interview

I applied directly through the company website and it roughly took 1 week to schedule the initial video interview. After portfolio review for 30 mins, the panel proceeded with a technical round, which is not a common practice for a design position. Asking about HTML/CSS questions is fair, but asking what the colour is through hex or rgba notation is bit ridiculous. These things can be easily googled or entered into a design tool. The important questions to be asked are about design process, problem solving, and ux strategy. It is unsure what exactly they were gauging by asking such questions. Even though this startup seems great to work at, the quality of the interview definitely needs an upgrade.

      Product Designer Interview

      4 Sept 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Toronto, ON
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Sampler (Toronto, ON) in Jul 2020

      Interview

It took 2 weeks from the first interview to the final offer. In a time like this and in a field like design where the common practice is to run interviews over 3-4 weeks, sometimes even longer, this timeline is pretty impressive. The interview itself consisted of a panel. The interaction felt more like a conversation than an interview which really helped make me feel comfortable.

Walk us through one of your portfolio projects that tells us who you are as a designer and how you work.
