      Summer Intern Interview

      20 Aug 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. I interviewed at Standard Chartered Bank in Sept 2020

      Interview

The entire process consists of 8 rounds. The first stage is CGPA based filtering. The cutoff for our batch was 7 at first but later they reduced it to 6.5. • The second stage consists of ‘strengths assessment’. This assessment is a bit like ethics test where you will be put in certain scenarios and asked questions like “what would you do in this situation?”. It is fairly easy to pass this as most of the options would be very obvious and if you understand the situation properly, you would face no problem. • The third stage is a ‘logical reasoning’ test which you will receive if you pass the 2nd stage. This will consist of mental ability/analogy/pattern matching based questions. The test will be very short, like 15 minutes. I forgot how many questions were there but there weren’t many. The level of questions was easy to medium. • The 4th stage consists of ‘numerical reasoning’. This will have some numerical questions related mostly to banking (like calculate interest) or some data interpretation questions (like given the data, which company had the highest profit). If you have some basic understanding of economics then this would be pretty easy. This test is also very short, same 15 minutes. • The 5th stage is the ‘Coding assessment’. You will receive the coding test invite if you successfully pass all the above stages. The test was conducted on “TechGig”. This interface was easy to understand so no problems with that. It had 2 coding questions and time was 90 minutes. First question was simple based on hashing. The second question was DP but that could also be solved if you have some good enough practice. The overall level of the exam was medium. • The 6th, 7th and 8th rounds were interviews, namely ‘technical round’, ‘one-on-one interview with a very senior executive’ and lastly ‘HR round’. The first interview was with an employee of the bank. They asked some DBMS/OOP questions. For me though he didn’t ask any technical questions. All he asked were questions like why you want to join SCB or why SCB and not some other bank, etc. It turned into just a casual discussion of interests after one point and the interviewer started speaking more than me. But others were asked some technical questions. I’d say that if your communication skills in English are good, then you’ll be able to easily clear this. Entire interview lasted about 20 minutes.  The 2nd interview was with a senior executive of the bank. He asked some questions about my projects and some more generic questions like what do you think is different in SCB compared to other banks, etc. This also lasted for about 20 minutes.  The 3rd round was HR round. It was supposed to be like a video call, but due to lack of time they did a telephonic one instead. The interviewer just asked formality-like questions like ‘is anyone in your family a politician?’ or ‘what do other members of your family do?’, etc. They just wanted to check that you as a candidate comply with their rules and such. So just answer “No” for such questions. Overall, the interview process was very long and tiring. It started in the morning around 11 am and ended at night 9pm or so. An ideal balance of technical and communication skills is what they were looking for so try to be good in both.

Relatively chill interview, focused more on fit than technicals. Superday consisted of 2 b2b interviews, followed by a group case study. Overall pretty satisfactory experience, friendly interviewers. Prepare a little for knowledge of bank etc.
