I submitted a lengthily application through their application portal, answering probably 5-6 questions about why you’re interested in the job, why you’re the best fit, experience etc. All fairly standard, but I spent several hours putting the answers together.
I didn’t receive any response or acknowledgement for about a month following the application, and had all but forgotten about the role. I then received an invite for a phone interview, which was scheduled through a calendar portal. We connected via Google Hangout shortly thereafter. The interview lasted about 30 minutes, although it was clear that the interviewer who ran the team had either barely looked at my application, or had very generic questions to ask. (For instance, I was asked how working in a fast-paced startup environment would feel to me. Well, my entire work history, including my current role, is in fast paced startup environments, so I’m going to say .... fine. It feels fine to me.)
Despite a positive conversation, there has been no communication from the company regarding any next steps or decisions, now several weeks after the call. Obviously, one doesn’t expect to receive next steps from every interview; however, I believe it is fair to expect acknowledgement of the time invested into the application and interview process and to provide a candidate the courtesy of even a generic form email: “Thanks for your interest! We’ve decided to move ahead with other candidates,” would certainly suffice, and be a heck of a lot more than what Suiteness did.
I have no further interest in working with this company after what I consider an unprofessional interview process.
