I applied online. I interviewed at T.K. Maxx in Jan 2015
Interview
At a mature age and with 6 years of retail experience, working in various companies I decided to work for a company that is different and is well known.
Found out a new store was opening so received an email after applying online to choose a time slot for an interview (morning/afternoon).
Finishing off my current job I arrived there will in time to attend, however they were interviewing other candidates.
Went in introduced myself and realised this was the same interviewer who interviewed me two years ago. For that reason she requested I go back outside as she would prefer the store manager interviews me (you would think it's great to see someone has applied before, he really wants the job).
Went through standard interview questions, like "what do you know about TK maxx?" .. "when was the time you worked as a team or became a team player" ... what do you hate about your current role"
I was also asked about targets and how I felt about planograms. Me being me, I was happy to present my figures, which the lady kindly declined.
After that I went through my availability. Mine being more realistic, Monday wednesday, and Thursday could only work till 6pm and Sunday could not work at all. Leaving more hours for other days. So realistically only having one day off (around 48 hours of work which is a lot, especially for a new store opening)
I also asked questions like "how do you make sure everyone's well being is taken care of in a busy and pressured environment ?" And "how did you progress onto a managers role within the company what steps did you take?"
Both questions are fine, especially the first one, it's only that I cannot ask such questions maybe because they love to keep people under their control, so wellbeing is out of the window "how dare you ask about well being?"
She also ended by saying I should apply for a managerial role because i have dealt with building a team and taking charge of a team, plus, the management training is superb.
Group interview then individual interview. It was easy. They asked questions and wrote it down on a white board. Individual interview was asked a tough situation ive been in and the solution.
I applied online. I interviewed at T.K. Maxx (Southend-on-Sea, England)
Interview
The interview was based on normal questions for a retail position. The manager was lovely and very calming. A great place to work very supported staff and management are great.
Easy, they just want to see that your availability is good and you can follow instructions. Don’t talk about your degree or any corporate experience they reject people for being overqualified
