      Product Manager Interview

      12 Feb 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at TechStudio (New York, NY) in Feb 2020

      Interview

an hour long talk about general notions of the profession followed up by a test task that they forwarded not even to E-mail but in the same group where Skype call took place. the company website isn't even working. the main HR failed to explain how the work is organized and which position exactly they were considering me for. besides, they just kept mentioning what doesn't work in their apps and which job openings they currently have (which are a lot). they sent a link to their app on google play without even asking if I actually had access to an Android smartphone as a part of a test task, which I don't. The next day without having received the completed test task, a recruiter got back with a message saying "oh, sorry, we are not able to make you an offer, but your work experience is so great. take care". what offer are we even talking about without tech interview and stuff?.. honestly, it looks like a scam. one of the most unprofessional interactions that I have ever had over the years in this industry.

Hello! Thank you for your feedback and we sincerely regret that you found our recruitment process flawed. But thanks to your feedback, we are able to improve the recruitment process. Of course, we will take into account the information provided by you and perform corrective methods. However, given the fact that we are working with recruiting partners, and this position was given to the partner, in fact, the feedback about the interview more concerns him, but if HR of the company did not ask you questions, then it means your experience and skills are not matched our requirements, as we are looking for a very specific profile of the candidate. We ask questions that we think they reveal the candidate from the right side. The technical interview is the next step that you have not gone through. Our company has been on the market for a very long time and if you haven't been chosen, it just means that our requirements were slightly different. Thank you for participating in the selection, we sincerely hope that you have found the right place for yourself and are successfully developing yourself! We wish you good luck and only the best choices in your life!

      Project Manager Interview

      13 May 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at TechStudio (New York, NY) in May 2020

      Interview

I was contacted by recruitment agency and first step was to send me English proficiency and IQ tests (do companies still do that in 2020?). Needless to say company's main office is located in Ukraine and interview was held in Russian. Interview was a group Skype call with recruitment agency, HR and me. Surprizingly company's HR was on mute for entire duration of interview. It took about an hour with general questions about my previous projects. Both agency and company's HR failed to provide me with any information about company or its products during the interview (like they were ashamed or the information was secret), and they even didnt bother to talk about projects that PM would be working on. Instead I was asked a lot of vague questions about Projects in general (felt pointless as Projects vary depending on company and business models) whereas professional approach would be discussing how would candidate would deal with certain projects Overall interview and whole communication felt extremly unprofessional. Company's linkedin profile consists of 28 employees 5 of them are in HR domain + partnership with Recruitment agencies (= low employee retention rate & high employee turnover) Website is also not kept up to date and there is no information about company's projects. Feedback deadline was agreed to be 2 days, I haven't heard back for almost a week.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What was the biggest challenge in projects you worked on? What do you thing is the reason why some projects fail? What do you see yourself doing in 5/10 years from now?

Hi! Thank you for the feedback, they're making us better! As you yourself specified, the interview was conducted by a recruitment agency - our recruitment partner. HR of the company is included in the conversation only when it sees that the candidate is interested for the company, and only in this case you get full information about our processes. Your calculations of the employee retention rate in our company look very cute because it is calculated in a very uninformative way. Our company has 75 employees and has been actively growing for several years. Our HR department does not only involve recruiting. The site you have seen is really being updated now as it is old enough and not informative enough for applicants as the company has been on the market for a long time. Thank you for your feedback and I wish you only the best!
