      Sales Development Representative (SDR) Interview

      30 Nov 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Tulsa, OK
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Tenstreet (Tulsa, OK) in Sept 2022

      Interview

The interview process consists of a phone screen from a recruiter, then you must submit a project to show that you can do the job. Then 4 group interviews and a final interview with the CEO. Throughout this interview process, I spoke with 15 different employees (yes I actually counted) from this company. The company does a deep interview and "pre-hire screening" process. Be aware that this company does LEGALLY DISCRIMINATE. The company uses a credit check on applicants, which I was not aware of prior to applying for the role. Not passing the credit check disqualifies you from the job. The company will give the "there's no perfect credit" spiel but at the same time deny employment based SOLELY on credit. Be mindful that employment denial is not even based on serious credit items like bankruptcy, foreclosure, or judgments. This company will deny employment if you "dispute" credit items and can't provide them a satisfactory reason why you disputed. I did ask if there were other factors that played into the decision and I was informed no. The interview overall focused on really getting to know you as a person, with lots of personal probing one interview even felt like a therapy session. The process was extremely long. Just beware, seems great initially most likely because of the "personal probing" but apparently, there's more than meets the eye behind the scenes. So overall, 5 interviews, a project, then a background check. If you pass all that you get the job.

Thanks for taking some time out of your day to write a review about your interview experience with us. We’re genuinely disappointed that it wasn’t a positive one. We’re grateful for the time you invested in us and I’m glad to see that you noticed how much of our team’s time we invested in getting to know you. It’s true, that on average, a candidate walking through our process will talk to 10-15 people (most in group settings). This serves 2 main purposes. First the feedback we get most often from candidates is that they get to know our team and our culture before making a decision to work with us. Secondly, we trust our team to make great decisions and you having the opportunity to meet a diverse group of people allows for us to get a variety of perspectives from people with different backgrounds. In short, our intentional process helps us get to know you and you us. You acknowledged this when you said to our team, “I feel seen. I feel like you really understand me.” during one of your interviews. The contrast of your comments to us in interviews and this review are stark and leave us pause. Obviously you’re hurt and didn’t feel we were clear with you on why we didn’t move forward with you as a candidate. It’s unclear what you mean by “legally discriminate” so we want to bring some clarity. Tenstreet in no way unlawfully discriminates against individuals in any manner on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), disability, or genetic information whether related to their credit or otherwise. As a company we have a right to conduct certain background checks and do exercise that right for the protection of our customers, employees, and other stakeholders. We strictly follow all laws relating to background checks, including that each individual receives a valid disclosure and authorizes such background checks in writing prior to procuring them. Further, we carefully review and conduct an individualized assessment with regard to all background checks. There are a variety of factors that go into someone getting hired at Tenstreet and while we’d disagree with some of the other representations of the process, what was communicated to you and the reasoning why we chose not to move on, we still wish the experience had been more positive from your perspective. It is an intensive process and we believe that our commitment to making sure each person we hire is going to be successful, regardless of the role they have applied for, is one of the reasons why people love working here. Work doesn’t feel like work when the role and a person’s potential and experience fit together so well. We wish you the best in your search and deeply appreciate the time you invested in the process.

      Interview

The phone interview was one of the most unusual I’ve experienced. Questions were asked with long pauses afterward and little engagement, which made it clear early on that the role didn’t feel like the right fit. While that’s perfectly okay, the recruiter’s lack of enthusiasm and limited knowledge of the company and position—especially when I asked clarifying questions—further confirmed that it wasn’t the right match for me.

      Interview

The interview process was long and tedious. It took around 2 months and it was three panel interviews with 2-3 people in each session. They asked similar questions each time so it felt very repetitive anx disengaging.
