I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at TextNow in Mar 2025
Interview
1 Recruiter chat
2 Software Design/Architecture Interviews (30 and 60 min)
1 Meet the director / culture
1 Meet the Head of People
1 Technical Coding using Codility
1 Final 15 min to ask the Team Manager questions
They got back to me in a 2-3 days. I found the process to be fair and clear from the get go. We had some minor technical hang ups with Zoom but nothing crazy. The coding question had progressive steps and was very conversational.
The interview process consists of:
- 30min call with recruiter
- 30min call with hiring manager
- 4 hour on-site interview.
Fortunately didn’t make it past the hiring manager. The question were mainly just about past experience and did really get into much detail.
The vibes however were not good and the company is going through a lot of churn. Appear to be some tensions at the company, but hopefully they manage to turn it around.

Question 1
Describe your job responsibilities as a senior developer vs. Staff developer.
Was initially referred to a position, and first had a call with a recruiter, which was average. Next, they gave my a take home assignment (said to spend 5 hours max, but the questions were ambiguous) and a SQL test to do online - the fact all this was assigned before even meeting the hiring manager was a yellow flag at best, but I decided to proceed.
I finished the case and sent it in, and the recruiter acknowledged it - the SQL test / online platform was buggy and wouldn't accept my working code (which ran elsewhere), but I sent in what I had and an extra text file with what I couldn't finish. The recruiter acknowledged that too, and then that was the last I heard from them. I sent one last message to let them know when I received another offer, but was essentially ghosted after front-loading a bunch of time in take-home work, which definitely isn't a great look on TextNow (been weeks now since I last heard) - it was the most negative experience in my recent next opportunity search.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It's disappointing to hear that your interactions with our hiring process left you feeling overlooked, that is never our intent. Your time and effort in completing the assignments are sincerely appreciated, and I apologize for any frustrations caused by technical issues or communication lapses. We're constantly striving to improve our processes and your feedback will certainly be taken into account. Best wishes with your other offer, and wish you much success.
