There are three approaches to the hiring process: referal, agency or via the website. Your CV will be reviewed by HR, and if it looks suitable their recruitment specialist will arrange to call you and run through your experience and motivation for applying to Berkeley. It takes about 45 minutes. Should the outcome be favourable, you then enter the three stage interview process. You need to pass each stage to progress to the next one. At each stage you are given clear, detailed instructions on how to prepare for it, and all the logistics around it. I1 - discuss your CV, experience and motivations for moving job with a partner. It's face to face and takes about an hour and a half. I2 - present two examples from your work experience of a project that you managed (or a workstream in a larger project) that best demonstrate your consultancy skills and acheivements. The presentation is made to two partners. You are given 10 minutes for each of the two presentations. After each presentation there is a 30 minute Q&A with the partners - one will ask questions while the other observes, and they swap roles for the second Q&A session. Time limits are adhered to, and the presentation is expected to be verbal, no preparation of materials are expected, although a flip chart is available if you want to use it. The point of this is not to assess your presentation skills but to gain an insight into your skills, mostly during the Q&A. I3 - Before you attend the final stage interview, you are asked to complete two online tests. One is a multiple choice timed assessment of analytical ability and takes about 35 minutes. The other is a personality questionnaire where you rank/rate statements and questions and takes between 30 and 40 minutes to complete. The interview itself is about 3 hours long. It is a role play for a case study based on a real project. A partner plays the part of the partner on the account, and an HR colleague plays the part of the client. You are given a short period of time to read some material about the account, the client and the problem. Then you conduct an interview with the "client" observed by the partner. You are given another short period to pull together some observations and a high level approach for dealing with the problem. You then have a session with the "partner" where you discuss your ideas and get some feedback on them, while observed by the HR colleague. Finally you have another short period of time to document the plan and write an email to the client with your proposal. The whole process was enjoyable, but challenging. There is a very quick response after each stage to let you know if you are successful.
