Interviews at The Overseas Teacher
New Mexico Elementary School Teacher
My District decided to initiate a “no zero policy” starting now. I was informed by administration that when a student does not turn in their work, I still have to give the student a fifty percent even though that student didn’t earn it. I teach sixth graders and I am not sure how I feel about this. Any words of advice?

Agree? Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced Friday that parents will be given the choice of whether their children follow mask rules in school this fall, challenging federal guidance and local school districts in what critics called an “irresponsible” and “appalling” decision amid a surge of infections.

What if you are mandated for a Vaccine? We know there are different ways to look at this; moralistic, political, personal and professional. Never the less, I'm pretty sure of the dilemma each of us will face in the near future! I'm interested hearing what your thoughts if confronted?

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at The Overseas Teacher (London, England, England) in May 2021
My initial interview with the TOT was friendly, relaxed and informal. James and the team demonstrate a keen desire to understand your background, circumstance and motivation to travel and teach abroad. The next stage of the recruitment process involves submitting a short introductory video and a mock demonstration lesson - this can be a daunting prospect if new to teaching. A subsequent interview directly with a friendly supervisor at First Leap China follows a similar format. Fortunately, James and the team are at hand to provide all the materials, guidance and support you might need. The same applies upon receiving an offer of employment. Help and advice from James and the team is inciteful and always forthcoming. Their experience counts when trying to make an informed decision and assess contract terms and conditions, employment conditions, remuneration, relative living expenses, location, etc. Connecting to other new and experienced teachers in the same position via the Lark app is a relatively new experience for me but already proving invaluable. People with first hand knowledge and experience are happy to share and help answer any questions, which in turn is helping to foster a shared sense of experience and create a friendly community prior to travelling. Obtaining a visa for China is quite a costly, arduous journey - only made bearable with the help of Bella at the TOT. The visa application process is broken down into timely, manageable steps so as to avoid any potential delays. I would not consider navigating the myriad levels of forms and checks without her assistance. Although I’m still at the relative start of my journey to teach English in China after some unfortunate delays due to Covid - James, Bella and the team at TOT have remained patient throughout. Quick to respond and always willing to answer any questions, I’m certain they will do their utmost to help you fulfil any ambition you might have to travel and teach in China.

Submitted CV on Indeed. They got back to me the very next day. I filled in a form and then automatically booked an interview. I got to choose my time and then was given a zoom link. Interviewer was waiting for me. Super nice guy. It was basically a nice chat with a few tough questions thrown in.
- What does the perfect learning environment look like to you?

I was invited to an online interview on the platform Lark, tasked to do a short practise lesson. Before the interview I was sent some slides from a pretend lesson to look over and prepare. After I had presented we had a short chat. The interviewer was really nice and made me feel reassured.
- Do you have any previous experience teaching?

Scheduled interview was for 8th of August at 9am central european time but they never showed/phoned and never responded to any emails I sent afterwards. I had my phone ready and available the whole day. Disappointing
