      Associate Producer Interview

      14 Jan 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Young Turks (Washington, DC) in Jan 2023

      Interview

I applied for the Associate Producer role in late-2022. This position is a fully 100 percent full-time remote job (work-from-home) role for one of the company's show. The company's website asked for applicants to submit only a resume. On January 11, 2023, the company emailed me that they are looking to fill the position on January 19, 2023. Salary: $22-$25 dollars per hour (non-negotiable) Benefits: Medical/Dental/PTO Start Date: February 6, 2023 (for those currently working another job to give notice to their employer) January 23, 2023 (for those who are not working and are unemployed) Company will supply the employee with a company-issued computer. Prefers West Coast candidates, but will take remote candidates from other states They say the position is remote at this, but the company claims to have Associate Producers, remotely from larger cities. The company someone who can help pitch and write story scripts for one of their shows, remotely boothing the show and all broadcast production duties via Skype, and edit videos for the show using Adobe Premiere. They want someone also interested in progressive politics. The company is simply an online media product with its own 24/7 streaming channel on multiple platforms, including YouTube. Also, note: the company and all of its shows are all entirely based on the West Coast. This is the only place they have an in-person office. They do not have an in-person office outside of the state of the West Coast After understanding the requirements and accepting the terms, I was scheduled a video interview (first-round interview) via Google Meet with the company 48 hours later (2 days later). I was told to pitch two story ideas that would best fit the show and come up with a recurring segment. I did what they asked. If selected for another interview, you speak with other employees likely from the show, and if selected for a final interview, then you will speak to John Iadarola himself. The company and its shows are simply left-wing media (liberal media and wokism) and are not factual, straightforward journalistic types of show and media outlets. If you want to be an on-air reporter, The company and its programming are not the company for you. I felt that the company wasn't really interested in candidates from the local news sector. And, I felt the entire hiring process was rushed based on the company's email of its hiring plans and deadlines. Less than 24 hours after I had the video interview, the company sent me a rejection email thanking me for the interview and that they have a lot of applicants and tough decisions. They said in light of their needs that they will not be moving forward with my candidacy for the position. I am glad that I am not working for this company given its history.
