      Data Scientist Interview

      14 Oct 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Touch Surgery (London, England)

      Interview

There was an initial phone screen, a take-home test involving analysis of a dataset, a technical presentation, and technical questions. Overall was very pleasant but they decided to go with someone more senior for a role.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Work through a common data science classification problem; tell us about a project you worked on (technical presentation)

      Data Scientist Interview

      19 Oct 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Touch Surgery (London, England) in Oct 2017

      Interview

The initial discussion was a telephonic interview with the Hiring Manager followed by a Data Science technical test to be completed within 3 hours. The final round was a face to face project presentation and an in-depth technical interview. Before the final round, the job title was changed to Data Analyst without informing the candidate (me) which was very unprofessional. When I checked with them, they said that due to business needs they had to change the job title and description (after nearly 34 emails bearing the subject Data Scientist and 3 weeks since first contact...?). I however didn't challenge as I had already prepared my project presentation which I was asked to bring anyway as they still had other roles open, and based on my performance they would want to consider for either of the roles. This is also uncommon to first identify a candidate and then choosing a role. After the final interview they informed their decision to not hire me because they preferred someone "senior". When I asked them what this meant, they said they were looking at other candidates with more years of experience. They had had my CV from the beginning of the process and I would expect a hiring manager to know the minimum years of experience needed for a role. If this is not available, at best the HR should explain this in advance. Once again the unprofessional nature was evident.
