      Territory Sales Manager Interview

      15 Dec 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Trupanion

      Interview

I was approached by a recruiter on LinkedIn. I was "pre-screened" as a candidate for the position. In reality, they never looked at my experience and it was a generic request from the recruiter. They probably send this email to dozens of people per day and act like they selected them.

      Territory Sales Manager Interview

      15 Jun 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Central City, AR
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Trupanion (Central City, AR) in Jan 2016

      Interview

It starts with responding to an ad. You receive an email about a time for a phone interview. You are asked about your commitment to building a territory over an extended period of time. They want to be sure you are financially able to survive on your savings and also pay your own expenses while you diligently build their customer base in a territory. The income from the expected work is absurd. It takes years to develop enough of an income to survive. I doubt many people decide to invest their own savings into developing a territory and creating brand loyalty for this company. They request working 6 days a week and paying your own travel expenses to promote their product. The compensation per policy sold is far too small a return on your personal investment. The numbers simply don't add up to anything more than donating your own money and time to benefit this company, rather than having a career and earning a survivable income. I don't see how they can keep a staff and I suspect the turnover is high because the ads for territory positions seem to never be filled.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Was I financially able to invest my own money into developing a territory for them? Was I able to work 6 days a week? The goal was to survive the initial years financially to someday sell enough retained policies that the residual income could result in a high income from the commissions. I was asked if I knew local veterinarians or had contacts in that profession. Selling pet insurance policies through veterinary practices seemed to be the marketing goal of this position. I was asked if I had insurance for my pets. (I don't)
