      Research Associate Interview

      16 Jun 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Truth Initiative (Washington, DC) in Jun 2021

      Interview

They had me sit for over 5 interviews that took up huge amounts of time. The interviews weren’t hard but when I asked them questions about their practices they tensed up a bit. I ended up not getting an offer after I revealed during the interview process we had found out a family member was seriously ill.

      Question 1

What do you think of this research initiative we have? How would you address this issue? Do you prefer to work on your own or in a team? Do you mind doing the excel spreadsheets?

      Interview

I had multiple virtual interviews across departments to get acquainted with the staff and to learn about how this position operates. Everyone I met with was incredibly kind and seemed to be excited about the work they're doing.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Truth Initiative (Washington, DC) in Feb 2016

      Interview

I applied through their website in mid-January and received an email to set up an interview 2 days later. Initially I was told it would be an in-person interview, but then it was changed to a phone interview. About a week later I had a phone interview with the VP for Evaluation Science and Research. It was a fairly informal conversation--I talked about my background and experience and she talked about the organization and the position. At the end of the call, she said she would tell HR to schedule an in-person interview, and I was contacted about a week later for that. The interview was about 4 weeks after I had applied--I was given a list of 10 names (first names only) of people that I would be meeting with. I was taken to a conference room--I first met with someone who would be a peer--there were supposed to be 3, but for some reason the other 2 never showed up. Then I met with individuals from other departments, then with 2 Research Directors, then someone from HR and lastly the Chief Evaluation and Science Research Officer. They all asked fairly standard questions about my background and work experience, working on multiple projects simultaneously, juggling priorities, fast paced environments, collaboration, quick turn around times etc. It was probably about 2.5-3 hours total. I didn't end up meeting with all 10 people and it was clear while I was there that they were shuffling staff around to different rooms wth other interviewees. I received an automated rejection email about 6 weeks after the interview. The entire process from application to rejection took about 10 weeks.
