      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Ulta Beauty (Covington, KY) in Nov 2020

      Interview

This was worst interview I've ever had. I was a salon employee of Ulta Beauty for 6 years before applying for the Services Manager position. Going into the interview, I felt confident considering my experience with Ulta, but I was mistaken. Some of the questions were confusing and impossible. I felt set up for failure and hung up from my phone interview feeling horrible about myself. After taking a break from Ulta to go to school, I had every intention of returning but not anymore. Reading the reviews from the other interviews all saying something similar just solidified my decision never to return.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They want to know your idea of Culture and Inclusivity. Not much was mentioned about the actual position.
      Answer question

      Interview

To be a services manager they make you interview with 5-6 people because of their new “inclusive and bias” interview process. They ask you robotic questions from a script and a lot of them are “tell me a time when…what was the process, the outcome, and success..?” Interviews with each person can range from 20minutes to 90 minutes at a time. But they already have bias if you’ve already worked for the company in the past or you’re trying to be promoted with in. It’s hard to find leadership who supports you to grow. If you find good leadership go work with you’re very lucky because in this company it’s hard to find. People will throw you under the bus because of bitterness and the fact they don’t like you. It’s really high school . Everyone I interviewed with wanted to hire me accept for the new DM who already reached out to my old DM (who I thought was great…jokes on me) and already made up their mind when doing the final interview process and asked me GM questions and other questions. Made comments to me about how my interview process is giving me more experience because I don’t need a job just like how they interview people for positions that aren’t opened but so they can get constant experience interviewing people even though the DM was reading a script interview process. The oxymoron of how I was treated and the outcome made me realize why I left this company in the first place. I loved my job but the culture was terrible. The company is good but not the people.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell a time when you had a disagreement with someone and how did you handle it? Tell me a time when you had to make a decision with not knowing all the information you needed? How did you handle it? Tell me about a time you felt stressed and overwhelmed? How did you handle it? You had a disagreement with a co-worker, how did you resolve it? Give a specific example of how you helped create an environment where differences are valued, encouraged, and supported. (I loved this question out of all the questions) Walk me though the specific steps you have taken when implementing a new process or Initiative? When was the last time you asked for feedback from your supervisor? Tell me about a time when you had to settle a dispute between team members. How did you go about identifying the issues? What was the result? Tell me about a time when your team did not meet a deadline? What did you learn? What would you do differently? Describe a situation where you needed to persuade someone to see things your way. What steps did you take? What were the results? this? Tell me about a time when you stepped out of your comfort zone and tried something new to influence a different result at work? The DM didn’t ask me proper questions because they had already made up their bias decision of hiring me or not. Everyone but the DM wanted to hire me. Always remember just because you make it to the end doesn’t mean you have the job. I never thought I had it, I knew they liked and loved a lot of my answers but I knew I wasn’t going to get it.
