Interview
The most thoughtful hiring process I've experienced.
VXT's interview process was genuinely different from anything I've encountered. It was rigorous and intensive, but every stage was clearly designed to test the things that actually matter in the role.
The process included a take-home assessment that was substantial and realistic. It reflected real work the applicant would be doing in the role, which required learning a lot about the company while completing it. The scope was significant and the standard was high.
What set VXT apart was how they treated candidates throughout. The CEO was personally involved and genuinely engaged. There were stages of the process structured in a way I haven't seen elsewhere, where the dynamic was deliberately flipped to give candidates real insight into the company and its leadership. It felt like a genuine two-way evaluation.
The feedback at the end was the most specific and useful I've received from any employer, successful or otherwise. They clearly invested real time and energy in evaluating submissions individually and appreciated the investment of time and energy put into the applications in return. There were also details about how they handled the process that signalled an unusually considered and generous company culture, consistent with how they describe themselves - truly authentic.
Even as an unsuccessful candidate, I came away with a stronger impression of VXT than I had going in.

Interview
- Reverse interview with CEO (30 min)
- Take Home Exercise (Code Review + Add new feature)
- 1.5 hour call (Expand on code in take home test)
Process was better than most companies I have interviewed with. While feedback was appreciated, it wasn't particularly insightful/actionable (and a little bit contradictory).
Each stage of the interviewing process was fairly standard, straightforward, and no drama. There were a few different stages:
- 30 minute standard initial call with a recruiter
- 45 minute "reverse interview" where the CEO talks more about the company and its goals and why it is a good place to work
- ~45 online "technical quiz" that was quite easy
- 1.5 hour technical interview where I worked through a provided problem on a call, explaining my thinking throughout the process
- 1 hour culture interview
At every stage VXT welcomed and encouraged questions. I felt like they genuinely wanted to get to know more about me, and get to know me better. Everyone I interviewed with was friendly and made me feel comfortable.
The overall process was fast, with the average time between each interview stage being 1-2 days.

Question 1
Talk about a time where you disagreed with an authority (at work), and what you did to deal with it?
