I was initially contacted by Vantage Europe and was told in the initial screening conversation that a semi-remote position in Berlin was available but that the offer would be in British Pounds converted to Euros on the day the offer letter is written. This was extremely confusing and takes advantage of current market conditions, making the company seem cheap and disorganized. I then moved on to the technical interview where the interviewer said Vantage does not even have a corporate office in Berlin and that the office is in Frankfurt. Again, it seemed like the internal parties did not communicate about basic things like salary and job location. When I asked the interviewer if the job offer would then be currency converted from British pounds into Euros, she said it sounded absurd, and I agreed. The offer is not converted, it’s simply given in Euros within a certain range for the position, so clearly, I was given incorrect information. The interviewer then told me she’d like to move me on to the next round and would connect with the original screener on the salary/conversion topic. Days later, after no further information, I received a note from the original screener saying my candidacy has been terminated even though the technical interviewer said I would be moved to the next round. I cannot help but think this is retaliation against me for pointing out odd discrepancies in the salary and location discussion. It seems like the someone made junior mistakes over and over again but I ended up suffering consequences for her mistakes while she tried to glaze over obviously incorrect information. Overall, this entire recruitment process was totally disorganized, unethical, confusing, and unprofessional. If this is any indication of how the company functions, then it’s probably best to steer clear. When I reached out to Vantage to report the issue, the response was even more strange where they described feedback for an entirely different candidate, quoting conversations I never had. It seems like a big cover up or they’re so unprofessional they confused me with a different candidate. Truly a waste of time if you’re a professional.
