Interview
I made it to stage 3 of the interview process. The interview process starts with a 30 min call with HR, followed by a 30 min technical interview, followed by a 30 min interview with the director. They told me the last stage consists of flying to HQ where you will give a 20 min technical presentation of your choice and tour the facility. The first two interviews went great, with friendly people to talk to. I got excited about the prospect of working at Verkada after these interviews. The interview with the director, which they described as “hybrid” was difficult and very technical, and requires extensive knowledge of networking. He asked very situational type questions (when would you use this over that? Can you name a few applications that use … and why would you want to use … over …?) My gathering is they want someone who knows networking inside and out. This position is considered “entry level”, but they want someone who is not entry level in networking and who wants an entry level pay.

Question 1
Name some instances where you would use TCP and some instances where you would use UDP. If you were designing an application, would you want to use TCP or UDP? So if you use UDP, does data being transmitted completely and in order not matter? How many DHCP servers would you include for a large business network of 100s of LANs? Whats the issue of having multiple services on one device (DNS, DHCP)? Explain the differences between broadcast domain, VLAN, and subnets and when you would use these. Name multiple use cases for using VLANS.

The process from first interview to offer took about a month and a half. They did communicate with me at all times even though there were some delays. Overall the interviews in my opinion were fun and a good challenge. They did also pay for accommodations for the in person interview which was out of town for me.

Aced and progressed through 6+ rounds, Additional VP Round at the final onsite. All to be told I didn’t have enough experience for the position. What a joke of a company.

Interview
The interview process was lengthy, but felt structured and gave me the opportunity to get a feel for the company. It balanced both personality, technical skills, and presentation knowledge equally while also giving you the opportunity to ask questions.
