Windy City Novelties advertised on Craigslist. I responded to the ad with a cover letter, resume and a writing sample. I was contacted by the President within a week via email for an interview. I accepted the interview for a week later. Several days after the interview request, I received a request to write SEO product copy for four items that Windy City Novelties currently sells. I was asked to send it back prior to my interview. All of my correspondence was via email and was with the President.
I arrived for my interview. The interviewer was also the President. He arrived late, apologized and walked me quickly back to a conference room. He complimented my writing abilities, made small talk and then asked me what I was looking to make. I gave him a mid-thirties number. He said that it was above what he was looking to pay. He said that I would hear back within a few days. The entire interview lasted less than 30 minutes. True to his word, he followed up to let me know that he thought I was valuable and had a great skill set, but they were going with another candidate.
