I applied through an employment agency and got a call a few days later to interview on site. I went in to interview, and the conversation was great. It seemed like a great place to work and I was also impressed with their technology. I was told that the selected candidates will be invited to interview with a higher manager. I was one of the selected candidates, so I went to the second interview well prepared. This was my chance to outshine the other candidate who was my only competition. The manager was a no-show and I was told I would be contacted with next steps. The next day came and no call or email. I called the recruiter and he did not pick up. So I emailed the first person I interviewed with but got no answer. Then I got a call from the recruiter on the Monday with some information that I already figured out. Being in the HR field, I know the game some companies play all to well. I was told that the higher manager had a family emergency and the other manager decided to go with the other candidate that they interviewed. What? How is that fair? I did not get my fair chance to prove myself. I did nothing wrong. The other candidate in no way earned that job; seems like it was handed out to him/her. I showed up for my interview. Why couldn't it get rescheduled or get someone else to interview me? As an HR professional, I have never and would never do this to a candidate.
