      VR Programmer Interview

      12 Oct 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at realworld one in Sept 2019

      Interview

15 minute screening interview with recruiter a day after applying. 1 hour technical interview with principal engineer 3 days later. The interview was very academic/theoretical and didn't feel too relevant to actual real life development work. After the interview they sent a programming test that consisted of a broken/incomplete space invaders game written in C++ that I had to fix and complete. The test used gender exclusive language and when I addressed that they doubled down, got defensive and basically exposed themselves as a company unsafe and unwelcoming to LGBTQ+ people. I then cancelled the interview. (If anyone from realworld one reads this: Get your management, HR people and recruiters proper DEI training.)

Dear applicant, Thank you for your honest feedback. We are sorry to hear that you were not happy with our recruitment process. We are doing our best to ensure that candidates have a positive experience throughout the process. Thank you also for your feedback regarding the wording in our test. It never was our intention to make anyone feel disliked or discriminated against by inappropriate wording. This doesn’t represent our company culture and everyday attitude. We improved this to ensure that future candidates don’t get the wrong impression about our company. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Warm regards, realworld one HR
