An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a gardener to join our small team here at The Japanese Garden in Cornwall.
We are a small, family business based in St Mawgan village and we are looking for a gardener who will be dedicated to maintaining the Japanese garden and working to a very high standard.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced gardener to join our team here at The Japanese Garden in Cornwall. The position available is for 1 day a week (8 hours), for 10 months of the year. Additional hours may be available throughout the season and we are looking for someone flexible who can cover sickness and holidays as required.
Our working season runs from the beginning of February until the end of November each year. Our staff work for 10 months and then are off work for December and January. The successful candidate will be someone who suits having the winter off work - or is happy to find alternative employment during the 2 months away from working at the nursery. Ideally we are looking for someone who will return after the winter break to start the following season at the beginning of February each year.
The primary role of this position will be gardening and maintenance in The Japanese Garden but will also include helping with deliveries of statues, Bonsai / plants and helping covering breaks in the gift shop and working a till, handling money and delivering excellent customer service.
This will include maintenance of the garden to a high standard, general gardening, some shaping and styling and working with our head gardener to do some structural work and landscaping when needed.
We are looking for a friendly, positive individual who is used to physical gardening work and ideally can work in a customer focused environment and is able to provide customer service.
The position will require someone who can work individually and to a high standard and can follow instructions meticulously.
The successful candidate must have the following qualities:
Position hours: 8 hours guaranteed a week. With the potential for more hours. Ideally the candidate will work days in the week; days to be discussed at interview.
We would like someone to be able to start immediately, but it is most important that we find the right candidate for this position so we will consider all applicants even if they are not yet available.
Starting wage: £13.50 per hour
The Japanese Garden is open seasonally from March until November each year.
