Pros
Joining the RAC as a patrol 8 years ago opened opportunities for development that would not have been possible otherwise.
The patrol role is challenging but also very rewarding. Its given me a life style and allowed me to have experiences that would not have been possible working in a garage,
When I looked to develop my career into management the support from my line manager was brilliant and mentored me throughout the journey.
There was a lot of self development I had to do but the resources were available to me to do so.
Having moved into the Academy as a team leader this role has been exactly what I was looking for. It allows me to use all my experience in the motor trade and as a patrol, tied with the people skills that I have gained through my own life experiences and combine them to help mould our next generation of patrols to future proof the business by creating and mentoring our own workforce from day 1 , through to completion of their apprenticeship then on into the patrol role.
This role gives the right balance of people management, technical training and offering development to individuals who want to have a successful career at RAC.
Cons
This role can be demanding and on occasions require a reactive approach rather than structed to support the team in any way required as with most leadership roles.
This isn't a 9-5 , Monday - Friday role, you are leading a field based team in a 24/7 business
