I worked at Sharp Laboratories full-time (More than 5 years)
Great people and culture. A lot of freedom to explore novel ideas, no expectation for instant results.
Can be difficult to take workable ideas from the laboratory into production since links with factories in Japan can be weak. Salaries are OK for the industry but poor for the calibre of people.
Advice to Management
Maintain the fantastic atmosphere. Make more effort to establish proper links with Japan and don't expect Junior employees to just 'be able' to do that with little assistance.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took a week. I interviewed at Sharp Laboratories (Camas, WA (US)).
Fairly rigorous interview, with several senior engineers.
Probing core programming questions, prior experience, details of projects I worked on. A few behavioral questions, typical about strengths and weaknesses, best achievement, etc.
