Which? – Why Work With Us?

Which? has been championing the cause for consumers since 1957, asking probing questions of businesses and manufacturers, and pursuing the answers that put you in the driving seat

Our founders wanted to make things better for consumers, and to raise standards across the board. So they started testing goods and services and publishing the results. They began campaigning too, encouraging companies to change their practices.

Today, Which? has more than 1.3m members and supporters, making us the largest independent consumer body in the UK.

Our commitment to providing unbiased advice to consumers is still at the heart of everything we do. So from choosing a TV, phone, car, or holiday, to writing a will, we’re always on your side.

Completely independent

The unique thing about Which? is that we are completely independent. We have no owners, shareholders or government departments to answer to and you'll never see an advert in our magazines or on our websites.

This means we work entirely on behalf of you, the consumer, and nobody else – so you can rest assured that you're getting the very best advice available.

Always asking questions

We’re well known for testing household products, like washing machines and digital cameras, but that's not all we do. Tackling consumer detriment and making positive change on important consumer issues is also a core part of our work.

Our advice helps people make informed decisions; our campaigns tackle consumer detriment to make everyone's lives fairer, more simple and safer; and our services and products put consumers' needs first, to bring them better value.

We’ve just launched our new values!

We asked Which? employees to share what they thought made a great day at Which?, and with hundreds of stories received we developed five values that reflect what we do and how we work.

What we offer you in return...

  • 28 days holiday + all bank holidays
  • 35 hour working week
  • Private healthcare insurance
  • Award-winning pension scheme; 11% after your first year
  • Flexible working
  • Perks - fruit drops, subsidized massages and yoga, mindfulness sessions, workshops and meet-ups
  • Season ticket loan scheme
  • Free access to Which? member content
  • Free access to Which? money and legal helplines
  • Cycle to work scheme

The Which? way of life

Here at Which? we care deeply about what we do. We know our day-to-day has a positive impact on people's lives. We're proud to be a not-for-profit that stands for change.

We’re a dedicated, talented team, collaborating across four locations; London, Bristol and Cardiff. Ask any of us what makes Which? a great place to be and the answer will be: ‘the people!’

Our careers offer unique opportunities, a work-life balance (really!) and one of the best benefits packages out there.

We choose the most compelling stories, develop engaging campaigns and build consumers the tools they need to make informed decisions. We code, wireframe, design, analyse and bring people together to make it all happen.

Whether they’re backend or frontend, React, Node, Ruby or Java, everyone in digital has a few traits in common. We’re knowledge hungry. We’re hands on, and in our element when we’re solving a problem and learning. We're scaling, investing in talent and transforming.

I have been working at Which? full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Great culture - very hardworking, passionate and dedicated people.
-Development - in the past few years I have learnt so much from my colleagues from different teams. I was always lucky with the managers who push me to progress and help me to find my strongest sides. Also, when not too busy - some colleagues like to organise random workshops to share certain skills - I find it really helpful.
-Product - finally some promising changes are happening with the brand. For years this subject was neglected and avoided, so nice to see with the new leadership things are getting in the right direction. A long process, but we are on the right path.

+Special thank you to everyone involved in organising such a smooth transition to working from home. I don't think this would be possible at Which? few years ago.. Surprisingly quick reaction! It is important care for employees, so well done.

    Cons

-Not a con, but perhaps focus on your existing talents in all the offices and create more internal opportunities? Knowledge is power!
-Sometimes we create "bubbles" of Which? within Which? by focusing too much on the team performance, rather than Which? as a whole.. Would be nice to mix up things a bit more so we know each other's job and purpose in order to improve communications.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Which? in June 2020.

    Interview

Due to the pandemic, the interview process had to be conducted completely online, as the team at Which? were working from home and so was I. It was very clearly and helpfully communicated beforehand via the HR team how the interview with the relevant staff team would proceed, by using Google Meet, with a hour-long written skills test to follow immediately afterwards which I needed to email across to the interviewers. Overall, I was satisfied with this process, despite the fact it was my 1st ever virtual interview.
