Pros

talented people and some award-winning creative

Cons

Lots of big egos and political nonsense, plus an overly complicated and cumbersome process. Probably why there's so much employee turnover.

We agree any job should be approached with caution, and a job at i.d.e.a is no exception. We are a challenging company in which to work, and our clients are equally challenging. We work hard here. All agencies struggle to balance creative energy with the requirements of process- it's a tightrope walk. We want our creatives to have an environment that frees them to do what they do best- create big ideas and improve previous concepts. We fight for their creative autonomy, while operating a stable and sustainable operations structure. We are accountable to our clients to maximize their budgets, and accountable to our staff to offer reasonable and fair compensation for their efforts. We often get it right, but it appears in your case we were not as successful as we would like. We appreciate your comments- it's helps us be better. Thank you.

Pros

Occasional free food - yay for gaining weight!

Cons

I was lured to I.D.E.A. due to the amount of awards they receive in the city and all of the major accounts they have, but seriously do not get it. The management team has ZERO clue on how to make strategic decisions for their clients. I honestly feel about for every single one of their clients, because they are getting completely ripped off. They could care less about generating sales or ROI for any of their clients, all they really care about is producing "cool" things that they can brag about at awards show and take all the credit for. And did I mention they pay their way into winning at the award shows? This agency is a complete joke and a complete insult to the advertising industry. STAY AWAY

You are correct, and we are fortunate to have your feedback. We do pay for award entries- each organization charges a fee per entry for each category- it's not free. We’ve paid, entered and won many categories. We pay for these entries because we're proud of our team and their accomplishments. Not only are they talented professionals, they work hard and we believe they deserve more than their compensation- they deserve recognition from their peers. Our team and the reputation they've built attracts a wide variety of accounts, major corporations and smaller but important non-profits. These companies chose i.d.e.a not only for awards (the candy and cocktails of our industry) but for the proven ROI we bring to them (the meat, potatoes, tacos, burritos, pizza and Spaghetti Carbonara). We apologize for what appears to have been a bad experience here, and we're especially sorry for what we hope was a temporary weight gain. We promise it's a shared struggle. Again, thank you for your candid and direct feedback, and we wish you well in your career.

Pros

Smart people. Some decent clients. Ok creative output. Yoga and beer if you can find the time to indulge. Client industries interesting and varied.

Cons

Poorly organized. Long hours. Leadership immune to the concerns voiced by staff and leaves them up to their necks in it. Frustrated employees that often leave within a year, if they don't get laid off due to constantly fluctuating work load.

You're right, the advertising business sucks. The rollercoaster of advertising clients and their constantly changing whims and budgets is the nature of our business. We didn't go into accounting, manufacturing, funerals or actuarial businesses, and perhaps we should have- far more stable environments. We're in a business that challenges us to work long hours, to constantly create and innovate solutions for our clients- there's not a lot of rest, not a lot of relaxation or time to pause and reflect. This business is not for everyone- those easily frustrated by a dynamic environment are often disappointed, and despite our efforts to create a healthy workplace, we are not a match for everyone, and not everyone is a match for us. We don't like to read reviews like this- it means we not only didn't we hire properly, we didn't realize it until we had a frustrated and unhappy ex-employee. Thank you for your review- we're listening and we care about how you feel. Good luck in the rest of your career.
