Worst decision of my life as well

Pros

I can't name a single one.

Cons

87AM will create this picture of a professional company with a fun, relaxed environment where you can grow your career. Don’t believe one word they say. In reality this place is full of inexperienced 20-somethings running around with big fancy titles tooting their own horns for mediocre work. I have never met or have had managers who abuse their power as much as these people do. They do not value their employees, their clients or any one for that matter. This is NOT a place to grow your career or to have goals of your own. Also, if you speak out or have any opposing view points they will intimidate and bully you into submission. There is no room for creativity, thoughts or any free thinking. It truly is “my way or the highway” at this company. The place is staffed by recently graduated interns (so like 22-24 year olds) who haven’t a clue what they are doing, don’t know how to write an email properly but walk around with immense self-importance and attitude. No one is pleasant to work with. All of the managers have NO EXPERIENCE so don’t expect workplace conflicts to be handled well, problems to actually be solved (you’ll just get told they aren’t problems) or professional growth to happen. Expect to jump through hoops, sell your soul and be a slave to the smallest, worthless accounts in the world. If you have a life outside of work, don't expect it to be respected in any way at this company. They will act as if they own every minute of your life, 24/7. Benefits are the worst benefits I've ever had at a job. (And I've had to pretty bad benefits) It's more than obvious that upper management is writing these really canned, meaningless positive reviews to combat the negative reviews. Don't believe a word!

Pros

Some of the people were really nice and worked hard. Convenient office location.

Cons

Management is a flat out joke. No leadership skills and huge egos. From day one, you are loaded up and are constantly expected to work long hours. In fact, the long hours are seen as a badge of honor instead of a sign of disorganization. No communication from senior staff or between departments and offices. Expectations and deadlines are managed poorly. Clients get frustrated and employees get stressed, anxious and burn out quickly. It's not worth it. 1) The pay is terrible and the benefits are awful. 2) No culture or perks. 3) Empty promises, lots of big talk and initiatives that went nowhere. 4) The company is limited in their expertise and the quality of deliverables is usually average. 87AM just doesn't compare to other "fun" "nimble" or "innovative" digital agencies.

Pros

If you think to believe the 5 stars written on this site- please think again. These are from current employees who were offered a raise if they went online and posted a good review to offset the barrage of bad reviews that reflect the true conditions within the company. If you read "our issues/cons are that we are nimble and growing so fast" run. Run FAR FAR away bc clearly this is a paid review.

Cons

There are so many things to list, so let me try to be concise: 1) The company is a joke. Half of the clients listed on the website were from the company's relationship with Allied Integrated Marketing- which they ended in June 2014. Therefore the only clients left are the bottom of the barrel clients that the company has been able to retain from their brief relationship with Allied. With that being said, your career opportunities are very limited. The company makes you sign an extensive contract that prevents you from working with any of their clients if you leave the company, so if you are looking online and thinking "wow, I could parlay this little gig into something great!," think again. 2) At one time the company had an office in Chicago- if you look on their website that office is no longer there. Mind you, that office opened in June 2014, it is December 2014. 6 months and the office is closed? That can only mean two things: 1) the company is so abysmal that they couldn't get clients to support the office and 2) They couldn't bring anyone in from a city of 3 million people to work for the company. Now would you like to know the reason why no one wanted to work at this "promising company"? It's because the pay is so low. We are talking 40k for a position where you are required to work 60 hour weeks. Add in the $150/month you are charged for health insurance and take out taxes and you are looking at living on about 22k. It's absolutely ridiculous. 3) Training for any position is non existent. I was trained by an intern- that's right, an intern- who honestly couldn't train a dog to bark. When you set your employees up for failure from day 1 and then beat them down when they make a mistake from their poor training, you get a disaster- which honestly describes the entire company. 4) Have you looked at their website and been like "man this looks like a cool place to work?"- well don't be fooled. The company has no benefits whatsoever. Looking for a 401(k)? Look elsewhere bc it ain't here. Want 14 days of vacation a year? You won't get that with 87am, they will give you 10 (and then take them away when they see fit). You won't even get Christmas off bc the CEO is Athiest and therefore he doesn't believe in that. 5) With no leadership and guidance the company is simply spinning in circles, and if you work here it will be a very sickly and bumpy ride. Most people last 6 months, those who have no other place to turn to or are friends with upper management may last a year, but that is it. With a name like 87am, everyone thinks that you are a radio station- and you might as well be with the low budgeted campaigns you work on. There is no culture, there is no value, all there is is half baked work and terrible campaigns. If you want real work I would suggest getting an internship with a legit agency, not this company that sprang out of the hands of a trust fund baby (the CEO).

87AM Response
11y
Hello, I am truly sorry your experience with 87AM was less than stellar, and I want to address the numerous points in your narrative that are incorrect: 1. No one has ever been paid for these reviews. Glassdoor has strict policies regarding paid reviews and they are immediately taken down. 2. 87AM is the digital arm of Allied Integrated Marketing, and have been since 2011. As their go-to for digital media, we have a fantastic relationship. 3. We also have a Chicago office and have had this office since 2013. The phone number to the Chicago office is 312.376.8590, and our VP Wayne McWorter would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the Chicago office. 4. 87AM offers benefits to all employees. This includes: a 401(k), health, dental and vision insurance, vacation and holiday days off. 5. Christmas is one of the 10 holidays employees have off to spend with family and friends. 6. Our interns are definitely some of the greatest and hardest working people we hire, which is why we pay them and why we believe in giving them real work experience. Many of those interns become full time 87AM employees. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.
