Pros

I really enjoyed working at ABC English. The working environment was so relaxed and everybody working there was friendly. All of my tasks given to me were enjoyable. The management quickly realized my capabilities and I was able to express them. The owners were more down to earth not like a corporation. I miss the kids and friends I made there.

Cons

There was only a part time job available for Japanese staff. So I had to leave for full time work.

Pros

I worked at ABC English for two years. I had a good teaching experience. -Fun easy going atmosphere. -Lots of teaching materials. -Long holidays -Yearly pay raise. -Clean apartment and good school facilities. I still keep in touch with my past co-workers.

Cons

Preparing for school events are busy. Have to take care of English test twice a year on Sunday. School is located in a small city.

Pros

The other teachers can be nice. The students are fun and engaging. There are plenty of materials.

Cons

Nothing is as it seems. The owners constantly fight. No organization. Constant miscommunication and changing of plans at the last second that even leaves students confused. Horrible micromanaging. Teachers are emotionally abused and left feeling like the only thing that matters is money and the school looking good in the eyes of the customers. The owners do not care about their teachers' well-being. The owners will lie or try to cover up things to make themselves look good. Do not believe the good reviews!

ABC English Response

*Thank you for your advice and your comments. I am Hiroyuki Sakamoto, the owner of ABC ENGLISH. I believe that all teachers, all office staffs and managers are doing their best. However, I apologize if we have bad points in our management. Our company complies with Japanese Labor Standards Law. The work days of the year are 245 days. (120 days off / a year) We also have long holidays. The monthly salary is 275,000yen. I think that this salary is a good for first year. Even if you cancel your classes, you have pay days off and make up lesson days. In the first year, 10 pay days off will be given. We have also long-term vacation three times a year. (GW, Obon, Christmas and New year) You don't need to worry about your canceled classes and teachers can rest well without problems. Of course our school is not perfect but I think teachers and children are having a fun time at our school. Also please check our school video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1E-H52WSvpU Managers sometimes have a discussion about children's classes and curriculum policy. Most of the case the discussion is to improve the working environment of the teachers. For example, about the budget for our classroom, teaching materials, student’s class level, children's safety rules etc. If we bothered you because of those discussions, please understand and forgive them. However, we need those discussions for our student's safety and better environment. I am proud of our staff and I am convinced our teachers are the best teachers. Please advise if our managers need improvements. We will take it seriously and improve it. School owner Hiroyuki Sakamoto
