Pros

I worked at ABS from 2007 - 2010, and I was given opportunities that jump started my career. I came back from 2015 - 2017 and found a work/life balance I didn't think was possible as an IT consultant. When I decided it was time to move on to a new challenge again recently, I received sincere support. I will always look back at my time at ABS as a worthwhile and meaningful venture that played a key role in my personal and professional growth. ABS is different from most other companies in that they are employee-focused with a mission statement that gives a higher sense of purpose to day to day activities.

Cons

Stay anywhere long enough, and you will begin to find things that you wish you could change. ABS provides plenty of avenues to affect change. If you decide that the change you need means going to work some place else, I can tell you that employees who move on from ABS are celebrated with going away lunches and many congratulations both from coworkers and from management.

Pros

ABS Technology is a great company to work and some of the perks include: A smart and innovative CEO, good pay for employees aligned to market rate and opportunities for individual growth. They also provide cell phone, computer, and gym stipend. The offices have been completely revamped in 2015. Everyone is pretty fun to work with including internal teams and the external customers we support. Awesome holiday and summer parties, free snacks in the kitchen, and walking Wednesday with the opportunity for free lunch! They also plan to move into new areas in 2016/2017.

Cons

Many of the problems ABS faces have been around for awhile. This includes weak benefits (expensive healthcare, poor 401k match), lack of telecommuting flexibility, poor culture that is perceived as "really good" by management. Often times changes are poorly executed (e.g. CRM). No performance management or defined growth paths. Poor marketing material and which never seems to be a concern. Lack of structure and process around most things in the company (travel, assessments, deliverables and so on). Poor training or no training on almost everything (internal tools, technology etc.)

Pros

The pros used to be good benefits and a family like culture. As long as you make very little money your job is safe. If you are a dog person you will love it here. (the CEO's dog can be aggressive - be warned)

Cons

Due to what appears to be financial issues everyone is under scrutiny and if you make any good money they lay you off or find something to get rid of you. Most management has been let go over the last year and there CFO left as well. The CEO has a small group of favorites that he listens to and gets advice from. If you are not part of that group then you may have issues. Lack of engineering resources. Engineers constantly travel with limited work life balance. Remote offices lack a voice. Questionable sales decisions when it comes to charging customers for work. If you are cat person.... no.

ABS Technology Response

I just wanted to thank you so much for your feedback. All of us at ABS are working hard to continue to improve and grow. ABS is financially sound and continues grow and evolve as the market changes. Our CFO is still an ABS employee working part time and providing sound financial leadership as well as contributing to our ELT and other strategic initiatives. Regarding benefits, ABS is always looking for ways to enhance our benefits and reinvest in our employees. We are looking for opportunities to not only offer more cost effective solutions to insurance, but also extend our benefits package to include more non-traditional items related to wellness. We certainly hope to continue to expand future offerings as we have the resources. I know that this time of year always puts a strain on engineers as the summer months are so busy. I can promise you we are working hard to get engineers in the right locations with the right skill sets. If you know of anyone that would be good please refer them immediately. Your comment on remote offices is great feedback and a reminder to me personally, as well as the other executives to visit those locations more frequently. As a current employee I certainly hope that you feel comfortable bringing items either to myself or your manager as we are constantly striving to improve. My door is always open and I try to remind people if you don’t share then I am unable to attempt to take action and make changes. As I have been here 27 years, I know ABS is not perfect but I strive every day to get as close as possible. Hunter p.s. we love cats as much as dogs
