Awful company to work for

Pros

I wish in my time here I could’ve had more positive things to say about this company. I really do. Apart from a handful of managers and coworkers, many of whom I consider my friends now, there really isn’t much to say. I can tell many of the positive, less detailed reviews here were written by management to pump the company up and by new hires full of energy; I know this because I felt that same way when I was new here, too. If you have a lot of experience in sales or insurance, if you have aspirations of making large sums of money in exchange for the hard work you put in, if you are looking for a company with a strong and supportive culture, DO NOT waste your time here and look elsewhere. It took me much longer than it should have to realize I’m cut out for much better than is offered here, and I hope this review prevents the same mistakes from being made.

Cons

Let me be frank. This is NOT a good company to work for. I have been a top producer for quite some time now and will be leaving the company soon. In the last few weeks alone I have watched many of my coworkers get unceremoniously fired- the high turnover will be touched on in a bit, but there are several things I’d like to bring to light for anyone researching this company. The first thing worth mentioning is the blatant culture of nepotism. A lot of high-level positions have been brought up because they are either married to or related to executives. There have even been needless positions created simply to hire relatives/spouses as managers, and have them get paid more for doing a fraction of the hard work that the AE’s do; they are nice enough people, but no one is quite sure what purpose they serve the company, management even jokes about this behind the executives backs when they think no one is listening. Unlike the regular employees without the connections, they can underperform and make mistakes an unlimited number of times without having to worry about them being broadcasted to the rest of the company or being let go. It would be laughable how overt the nepotism is if there weren’t dozens of regular underpaid employees working under intense pressure and given various excuses every couple of months as to why they won’t see the full amount of their earnings, much less be promoted. The second thing to note here is the toxic culture present in the sales department. Management has no problem stomping around the office, singling out employees and publicly humiliating them in front of the entire office on any given day. Anyone who questions something or has a differing opinion on anything won’t just be silenced, they will be slammed, once again for the entire office to see to make an example of anyone who dares to question any process. I got as far as I did by playing nice with management and keeping a smile on my face, even though in reality I was and am not happy as are most of the employees who work the phones. Then there are the numerous other red flags that pop up when you are too deep into the job to make another decision. The turnover rate is very bad, and the company has taken steps to downplay this as to not dishearten and demoralize the office any further. For example, there used to be “Employee Departure Notices” emailed out to every employee that no longer get sent because they are such a frequent occurrence. Over three quarters of the people hired in the last year alone are now gone and that number is only going to get higher before New Year’s. There are numerous reasons for this, but the most common is newer agents are expected to perform and produce on the same level as experienced agents like myself, despite not having anywhere near as much licenses for states. I can’t tell you how many times frustrated new agents came up to me to complain about this, and truth be told, I had no idea what to tell them. I didn’t start off hot, but I eventually got a rhythm going after a while; unfortunately, many of my coworkers(and I do mean MANY) were not so lucky. Management dishes out blame and ridicule to undeserving employees whenever things go wrong and makes cuts per request of the executives. Periodically management throws fits of rage directed at certain teams whenever things go wrong. As mentioned in prior reviews, new processes are implemented without being tested and employees are reprimanded when they break a “new rule” despite being unaware of them to begin with. This speaks to the lack of proper communication coming from the high levels of the company, which rather than fix, they choose to downplay. And finally worth mentioning is the absolute lack of cash flow AE’s must deal with, as well as a sub-par, basic at best benefits package. Not only is the base salary poor(around 24k after taxes), the executives have thrown up numerous dubious metrics as well as an outrageous upline reminiscent of MLM’s that prevent AE’s from seeing their full commissions, which themselves only get paid out after several months and only if a high amount of premium for the month gets paid out. If, say, on the month before the waiting period ends two large cases of yours decide to cancel pulling you under that amount of premium paid, you will not see a dime of that commission, even if you exceeded the sales metrics. It happens to everyone, but not everyone bounces back. All in all, this is the definition of a high-risk, low reward dead end job.

Thankfully, the vast majority of our employees do not feel the way this former employee does. This post is chock full of false statements... so many actually... that to respond to each one might lend credibility to them. I encourage anyone reading this to read ALL the reviews with the understanding that websites like this tend to attract the worst of the sour grapes among us. The one metric that I am most proud of at our company is the fact that over 25 people who once left us (presumably for greener pastures) have come back to work here. When you think about it, that speaks volumes. We are a small business of caring and compassionate people who are working hard every single day to make a positive difference for our clients and for our employees. Running a business is not easy! There are changes that need to be made on a regular basis and, unfortunately, sometimes those changes include letting people go. While that is a difficult realization, in most cases it is critical in order to keep the business healthy and well positioned for the future. The agents here at AccuQuote are sales people. And sales people need to perform in order to find success. This job, like any job, is not for everyone. But it certainly works very well for a lot of people (earning over 100k), including some agents that have been here over 20 years, as well as a bunch of relatively new people that have just joined us within the past two years... some of those "rookies" are already tracking to make over six figures! No business is perfect and can please everyone. We make mistakes from time to time, but much of the feedback here in this post is patently untrue. We are good people with good intentions who do everything that we can to make this place GREAT- and there are many people here who love it here. Ask around. You’ll see.

This is, obviously, not the opinion of the vast majority of folks that work here. We currently have 114 employees. Some of our best agents came here with no experience, no licenses and within months were earning over $8k a month. No degree necessary. Desire is the key. Not sure whether you're suggesting that we start out our relationship with our new people with a drug test that says "we don't trust you"? Really? If someone is found under the influence on the job, yes, they would likely be terminated, but they would anywhere else as well. Lack of tech? What are we missing? AI? Dozens of folks have left our company over the years, and then returned. Who would do that if things are as you say they are? As anyone can see, this review is nothing more than sour grapes from the type of person many of us have worked with at some point or another. Read all the reviews and you'll get a more accurate feel for what we're all about.

Pros

Base salary Free leads That's about it

Cons

Must work 1 extra Saturday a month without overtime, sometimes more They constantly change commission structure. Someone left a review on September 8 saying they do this. The company replied back that they haven't changed commission in over a year. That is absolutely false. They have constantly changed commission to make it more and more difficult to earn 6 figures. They like to say they have agents making well over 6 figures, that was before the commission changes. They also require 40 hours a week. If you have a doctor appointment, and miss 3 hours, they say you're required to stay late and make it up that same week "because we're salary and get paid the full day". The salary is just a loop hole that allows them to have everyone work an extra Saturday without paying any overtime. How that's even legal is beyond me. The best part is, if you stay an hour later one day, you don't get to leave an hour earlier that week. It only applies when you miss time, not when you work too much. There have also been many agents who claim they have missed commission payments and the system they have makes it very easy for commissions not to be credited to an agent. Again, MANY agents have said this.

We understand that you have some concerns about your experience as a prior agent at our company, and we appreciate your feedback. While we value all opinions and strive for continuous improvement, we would like to provide some perspective on the points you raised. Firstly, we're glad to hear that you found the base salary and free leads as pros of working with our company. We aim to provide a competitive compensation package to attract and retain top talent in the industry. Regarding the issue of working extra Saturdays without overtime, I want to clarify that our company complies with all labor laws and regulations. Sales roles often require some flexibility in hours to meet the needs of our clients, and we make sure to compensate employees fairly for their time. You mentioned concerns about changes in the commission structure. We would like to emphasize that our company periodically reviews and adjusts bonus structures to align with market conditions and industry standards. These changes are made with the goal of ensuring fairness and competitiveness while still providing opportunities for our agents to earn a substantial income. As for the requirement to make up missed hours due to appointments, our policy is designed to ensure that agents meet their weekly work commitments. We believe in accommodating personal and medical needs, but also need to maintain the consistency and availability required to serve our clients effectively. Should any issues occur, we always encourage you to reach out to your manager to assist you further. Regarding missed commission payments, we take such concerns seriously and have mechanisms in place to investigate and rectify any discrepancies. We encourage agents to communicate promptly with management, HR and Finance teams to address any issues they may encounter. Your advice to management about the culture is appreciated. AccuQuote is constantly working to improve our company culture and prioritize the well-being of all employees. We value every member of our team and understand that a positive work environment is crucial for success. We appreciate your feedback and hope that you understand our commitment to addressing these concerns. If you have any further suggestions or feedback, please feel free to reach out to our HR department. Thank you for your time with our company, and we wish you the best in your future endeavors.
