Pros

Fantastic group of colleagues in London newsroom - fun and lively atmosphere. Gutsy news channel, unafraid of new ideas. Central London location. International and new perspective on news reporting.

Cons

Administration (pay rises etc) is often delayed and shambolic. Bureaucratic, but no more so than any other organisation.

Pros

Great story-telling. Some wonderful journalists. AJ has the means and the resources to really tell the story in more depth than others. That makes it a wonderful news channel to work for.

Cons

Unless you are a favourite of the management, you will not get ahead here. It does not matter how much you push, or apply yourself, or go that extra mile. You will not be recognised. You will be pigeon-holed until the day you finally decide to leave. So many talented people have left London because management refuses to let people grow. Pay rises? few and far between. Massive disparity with Doha pay and benefits. And management has no desire to try and fix the chasm. It's ridiculous. And morale is low as a result.

Pros

Having the opportunity to work for a world-class news channel, covering parts of the globe that mainstream channels neglect, and working with a fantastic team of mostly bright, motivated people.

Cons

Freelance work doesn't offer job security - that's true of anywhere - and in breaking news you're guaranteed to work long, unsociable hours. Desk producing doesn't offer you the opportunity of getting out so expect to spend lots of time sitting in front of a screen.
