Pros

Working with animals, great team of people, making a difference in the community.

Cons

Poor management who consistently put staff in traumatic situations without support. Poor communication, hostile work environment, burnout, extremely under staffed, no room for growth, low wages.

Dissapointing and messy

Pros

Being able to work towards making a difference in the life of an animal can be rewarding

Cons

CEO and upper management does not care about their employees below them and don't even know who the people are who are giving their blood, sweat and tears every day. Major contributers who aren't working for PO aren't appreciated, valued or rewarded, or even simply recognized, all that goes to the people above them and it's so deflating and disrespectful. And they don't listen to feedback. Everyone is wiped all the time, and frustrated. Your days feel impossible and we rarely feel uplifted or like we are winning. the expectations on us are unachievable and more just gets tacked on without a thought. BCSPCA is too money focused, siloed and they don't invest in improving their systems, resources or making smarter choices. Everyone who can find another job is leaving, as the motivation from working to benefit animals runs out eventually.

Pros

Occasional puppies and well-meaning people. If you work the fundraising department, you will get the experience you need for career growth at another org. It's also silo-ed from the problematic departments (works as it's own little organization).

Cons

Doesn't make nearly the impact on animals they could or should with their budget. Toxic leadership that doesn't value employees, and is the biggest reason for a mass exodus of their best people the past year. Lacks focus, follow-through and innovation.
