Pros

The mission of NCI is admirable.

Cons

1. NCI is run at the whim of the CEO 2. I was hired to make changes, but no one wanted to change 3. Senior management and executives are paid well, but all other employees are paid embarrassingly low salaries. 4. Some of my employees hadn't received a raise in years 5. Tenure is valued over productivity 6. Technology is archaic. Leadership doesn't want to spend any $ to upgrade. 7. Financial waste is rampant 8. No one truly wants to "fix" any problems because they may "fix" themselves out of a job 9. Turnover is extremely high. Voluntary and involuntary. Talent leaves the door all the time b/c talent and innovation in back-office operations is not valued 10. Leadership only cares about what the public sees (e.g., programs, Turkey Trot, etc.) 11. Cronyism 12. HEALTH BENEFITS ARE THE WORST I'VE EVER HAD. THEY ARE A JOKE. 13. NCI will not change for the better until the CEO, well past her prime there, is replaced

The WORST place I have ever worked!

Pros

They paid extremely well for a non-profit. Unfortunately, this makes them think they can treat their employees like absolute garbage! The paychecks were wonderful, but my well-being is so much more important.

Cons

This place is an absolute joke! Management thinks that they are royalty. I understand that this non-profit helps many and that does wonderful work, but NO ONE KNOWS WHO THEY ARE! So management, chill out and get off cloud 9. There is no sense of respect for anyone, even your peers. If you have a good attitude, believe in working as a team and want your division to succeed= DO NOT APPLY! Everyone believes in throwing others under the bus and doing anything they can to brown nose the executives! I have always been a hard worker, but this place is an absolute sweatshop! If you work there now, GET OUT OF THERE! There is life outside of NCI and there are people that respect and appreciate their employees! If you are applying, STOP, and apply somewhere else!

Pros

A good place to work in order to familiarize yourself with red flags to avoid in the future when it comes to management, work environment and leadership.

Cons

The agency's modus operandi seems to be: 1)Hire new/young/desperate employees 2)toss new hires into the "deep end" with minimal to no guidance 4) management takes credit for any work and successes you have 3)overwork, spread thin and take advantage of employees until they burn out (high turnover) 4) rinse and repeat Add to this that there is no chance for opportunities to move up. I was literally told that my work and effort to go above and beyond is not taken into consideration for promotions and raises. Was literally told "that's not how things work around here" which gave me no motivation to do anything above the bare minimum. Nepotism and being related to leadership is the only way to move up at Baker Ripley.
