Pros

Employees get free food, on occasion

Cons

Human resources would rather create promotional recruitment materials that feature the same 2 POC over and over to show that they are a “diverse” workplace, rather actually hiring a diverse group of people. The same HR person purposefully brushed off numerous reports of sexual harassment from a high level individual within the company stating that it was pointless to report him because he was just going to retire in a few years anyways. This company put their name on the design of the Black History Museum in Richmond, yet won’t even acknowledge it’s significance in the community as to not alienate their racist and white supremasict clients and stakeholders. They even joked about making the one Black leader within the company a 51% owner of the firm, just so they could claim minority status and be able to qualify for more state funded projects. Don’t be fooled by their seemingly youthful and fun workplace. It is not a safe space for POC and is barely a good environment for women.

Pros

Nice office space, decent medical benefits, wonderful admin team, great work/life balance, generous PTO plan

Cons

There was a huge disconnect between how leadership perceived employee satisfaction and how employees actually felt and spoke about the company behind closed doors. Having worked on the admin side of things, I was privy to a lot of conversations between members of upper management that left a bad taste in my mouth. Women and minorities were treated as diversity tokens that could help the firm avoid being classified as discriminatory. Working an admin job at Baskervill reminded me of waiting tables during the Sunday lunch rush--it's the closest comparison I can think of. I felt so belittled and expendable; it made me lose all passion for the work I was doing. It's not rewarding to support and help people who feel entitled to your time and are immune to any consequences for their bad behavior. Pay was grossly under the local/industry average for just about every department. Any mention of this was met with a reply about how the "great benefits program" was intended to compensate for how low the base pay was.

Pros

Designers are very nice and welcoming

Cons

Leadership is dedicated to protecting predatory people on staff and does not have young hire's best interests in mind
