Pros
It can be a good place to meet some great people. At times the work can be interesting, and in the past individual working was encouraged to help the best work their way up, though this is now largely non existent.
Cons
There is a gross inequality in salaries, with the very hardest working staff members seemingly forgot by management, leading to a large in still increasing staff turnover, with upper management rumoured to be on disproportionately high salaries. This fact whether objectively true created a strong sense of resentment among technicians, who are paid very little. There seems to be a lack of understanding on how many technicians with university degrees are being offered little more than minimum wage. Ingrained cronyism in middle and top level management, where progress and status in the company is determined mainly by pre-existing friendships rather than by merit. The U.K. manager was replaced a few years ago, with the incoming manager spending only half his time in the U.K. consequently a power vacuum appears to have formed where important decisions are not being made, or being made without a appropriate understanding of the company. Morale is dangerously low, and continued to plummet in the months up to my departure. Staff turnover has skyrocketed, and the mental heath of many colleges is now a big issue.
