Dysfunctional startup that isn't as good as it seems

Pros

-Interesting science and great mission -Nice coworkers -Nice free on-site gym -Good work life balance for many but not all -Impressive parental leave policy

Cons

-Nepotism - senior leader and unqualified mid-level leader are in a serious relationship that affects strategy and team wellbeing -Leadership is against any critical input on strategy even when individuals have the relevant background/expertise -Leadership doesn't recognize contributions appropriately. They'd rather hire new people than promote qualified candidates from within. -No company or employee handbook with any guidelines. Rules/guidelines are decided ad hoc by CEO which is confusing and unfair to employees. -No legitimate professional development support -No cost of living adjustment -Unclear scientific strategy, beyond what is normal for startups

Doing well for only being 2 years old

Pros

Snacks, some flexibility, cool science.

Cons

They talk about room to grow but I have no idea what that looks like. Your opinions and voice isn't taken into consideration and sometimes you are brushed to the side. Lots of risky science and so much has to go right for this to work.

Pros

Robust mission! They challenge the skills you have and encourage you to build new ones...and then challenge those. Coworkers are among the sharpest minds you can work with, and are super supportive. Fast pace, creativity is encouraged, and assignments are well-resourced Not afraid to invest in equipment or training when needed Management strongly encourages work-life balance Great benefits Highly selective

Cons

Fast pace means there's never *quite* enough time to get all the work done. Things change frequently; if you're not comfortable with change that could get frustrating.
