London office = trainwreck

Pros

Great clients in the social sector and good theoretical grounding in user engagement and mobilisation.

Cons

This is an American company that does not know how to run an office in the UK up to proper standard. Deceptive hiring process with many promised benefits never manifesting and bad tax/financial advice. Salary progression and performance feedback very unprofessional. I was told my annual raise by my manager in a bar at an afterwork event. London only really offers "strategy." In the last year, they've laid off all their designers and can't keep developers. All creative work actually done out of New York, or other US offices. Mediocre, disengaged management in the UK office that's just trying to do the minimum to meet their targets and are not involved in actual project delivery. Long hours due to inefficient project management.

No other agency like it in London

Pros

It's rare to find an agency that puts effort into working on causes they believe in. Not everything we do is changing the world, but where possible we try to work on things that can have impact. Feels like a startup, anyone's idea can turn into something, and it's a close knit group. I get the sense everyone is always trying to improve, which keeps things fun and evolving. And compared to every other agency I've encountered, there is a refreshing authenticity to our work and approach. We don't claim to know everything or have all of the answers, we're always learning with our clients.

Cons

It truly is ever-evolving, so if you want strict methodology and super efficient process, you might find things difficult. But if you're a self starter you can achieve a lot. In London at least, we're still figuring out the optimal way of working, the best mix of roles and process, etc.

Pros

Rarely you can find such a great balance of both amazing co-workers and office culture and meaningful work for some impressive clients. The BSD team is what makes this experience unique in any way: you get to work and brainstorm with people from any part of the agency, from account directors, to designers, strategists and developers. This is an aboluutely amazing start for an intern who needs a broader overview of the agency world.

Cons

Be prepared to speak out on the things you want to work on and achieve during the summer. While you get an amazing support from the people leading the internship, you have to be outspoken to make sure you're getting the most of it and involved in projects you like.
