Pros

Boingo does a good job at positioning itself as a "great place to work" though this is more facade than fact. The compensation is competitive and the benefits and perks are very good.

Cons

There are so many internal politics that are influencing tactical decisions as opposed to critical thinking and thoughtful analysis. An example: the company has fallen in love with the idea of being "agile" as opposed to critically analyzing what projects could excel in a more agile framework. This is a great methodology for engineering but not necessarily construction based builds. Boingo claims to be transparent but they have executed internal reorganizations absent of communication. There is no prioritization across the enterprise as it pertains to revenue driving and internal system enhancement projects which is a core competency. There are people who clearly do not demonstrate the Boingo "SPIRIT" values who have thrived in this company and have been promoted. These are people that have explicitly been detrimental to moral and are just extremely unpleasant to work with. There are a lot of bright people that are employed at Boingo but those who have the most influence and loudest voices are those who have an understanding of the political landscape and focus their efforts on furthering these political/selfish agendas as opposed to what is right for the business.

The Worst HR!!

Pros

Being part of the worst layoff process I realized, I'm glad I won't have to work with Boingo's HR team ever again.

Cons

worked for 3 years and 50 weeks...2 weeks/10 work days short of an "actual" year according to Boingo. When I was let go along with 80 other teammates, Boingo offered two weeks severance for each year worked for the company. BUT...because I worked for 50 weeks my last year, 2 weeks/10 days technically short of a year, I didn't get my severance for my last year. I was not offered a prorated, or a partial payment for that 50 weeks that I killed myself working for Boingo. I got $0 for 50 weeks of work in my 4th year. I was only paid severance for 3 years of work. They laid us off the week before Christmas holidays, squeezed everything out of us before the layoffs, and didn't care about the work we did if it didn't technically measure up to a year. What a terrible HR department. They could have provided a prorated severance for my 4th year. This is just one the examples of how awful the decisions that the Boingo HR department makes every single day. Boingo HR upset every person who got laid off, and while layoffs are always hard, they don't have to be brutal. Boingo HR mis handled the layoffs; It was a masterclass in unprofessionalism in HR. Boingo HR is just bad. Full stop. It's well known inside and outside of the company that the HR at Boingo is terrible.
