Pros

I've worked at Boom for 4+ years, initially part-time while the company was relatively young. I started as a Customer Service Representative and gradually increased my hours over time. It then reached a full-time mark in 2022 with the launch of a new product and I slowly was entrusted with growing responsibilities and eventually to where I am now which is a Customer Service Lead responsible for 4 staff members and structuring a department. The Boom employees I have worked with have been friendly, understanding, and extremely focused which builds a fulfilling and productive workplace. My main pros: - A remote-first company - Encouragement from higher management to innovate and bring your thoughts forward - PTO is encouraged - Internal digital gatherings which are great

Cons

I am overseas so miss out on some benefits. But that's it.

Pros

Good salary, remote positions for everyone

Cons

Company is still figuring out how to function properly. I was hired onto a small team under the expectation I'd have time to learn the language, and build a core engine. After 2 months we were told we weren't doing well enough. The timeline, and expectations the company had for the multiple projects we needed to do was completely unreasonable, and despite numerous complaints from myself and other co-workers; nothing changed. I was told for 6 weeks I was going to get help with the project I was working on, and it never came. I was fired for not meeting goals that I didn't even have milestones or a due date for, and had no idea I was even in danger of losing my job.

Boom Entertainment Response

We appreciate the feedback. We will continue to work to make sure we are as candid and as transparent as possible with our communication. We’re sorry you didn’t feel like things were clear or that you felt surprised by what developed. For people considering Boom, in the rare times we’ve had to let someone go (we reviewed our stats – this has only happened to a relatively small number of individuals, representing 6% of all hires over 7+ years) we try to make it explicitly clear to the individual if she/he is not meeting expectations (including written performance improvement plans and very candid feedback from managers). We never want it to be a surprise in the unfortunate times that it’s not working out. Our managers are told that if a team member who is let go is surprised by it, we haven’t communicated clearly enough leading up to the decision. So in this case, it appears we indeed weren’t clear enough despite our intentions to do so. We’ll share this with our managers and will strive to do better here. We’re sorry that this role didn’t work out, but we wish you the best of luck in the future. Steve
