Worst company I've ever worked for

Pros

There are kind and intelligent employees that are very easy going. There are snacks.

Cons

I'm not sure if the company has the employee's best interests in mind. They don't have remorse over cutting any of their without warning employees. They don't give people a chance to correct or improve their behavior/performance. I understand Nevada is an At-Will employment state, but have a heart and understand that people's livelihoods are at stake. This place seems to care more about your time than your output. There is a strong sense of favoritism going around as rules can be bent for select individuals. There is a culture of fear and compliance. You know there's a problem when the employees are always on edge and afraid that their job is on the line. There is no room for change or improvements based on employee feedback. The leadership can easily disregard it and go along with whatever they want. They can fire you for saying something inappropriate and easily turn around and do the same thing behind your back. All these problems are branched from one source, which is the individual who runs the US branch. There are lower-level managers who are great and doing their best, but they are also subject to the rule of the same individual. It's all about control and power.

Pros

-This company is growing quickly, leading to more opportunities internally. -This company believes in communication and teamwork, constantly encouraging others to develop professionally and personally. -Work-life balance is understood here. -Mentorships are available in every role. -The customer base is very polite and patient, which is a stress reliever considering the type of medium to large-scale applications we get to assist with. -Many employees have been here long because this company treats us well, making us feel like a family.

Cons

The company is imperfect; however, we strive to improve our weaknesses. Since we are experiencing growth, we are still going through the evolution phase, which can provide some stress. It's important not to focus on the shortcomings because hindsight is 20/20.

Pros

The manager for the support department is generally very knowledgeable on his field and is pretty easy to work with. Most of the actual workers within the office are pretty helpful when asked. 9-5 hours with little to no expectation of overtime. Typically, you will not be expected to stay late at the office to finish up a project. Pay is decent, nothing out of this world but it's alright for the industry. Benefits package was also fine, though the company changed providers multiple times in the short while I was with them.

Cons

Company culture is very odd. The company has some aspects of South Korean management styles that have held out. The work environment often felt like you were being monitored constantly. This culminated in one of the security cameras moving over the weekend to provide a full view of everyone's monitors in the support department. Aside from that, everyone in the office is usually deathly quite. In nearly a year of working there I don't believe I talked to at least 5 of the developers more than once. Aside from that, there's very little actual 'support' work to be done. Much of the job's day to day work revolves around technical writing and updating manuals, tutorials, etc. If you enjoy technical writing you'll like the job, but be prepared for an 90-10 split that is dominated by technical writing. The company's U.S. office is still incredibly small, and as such advancement opportunities are few and far between, especially for engineers with no interest in software development. Outside of Support, most of the management seem to be in over their heads.
