Master Control Room Operator

Pros

General employment in the TV industry.

Cons

Wow, where do I begin. As far as master control room positions go, you're on your own for the training because the staff don't feel its their responsibility to train you. They guarantee you 16-20 hrs a week, pay starts at $15/hr and then they expect their unmotivated staff to train you up. People there come in late, leave early and talk about leaving. The positions have a high turnover rate but I suspect they've opted to displace the position with interns. I think I might even still be an employee considering I never got terminated officially..they just guaranteed me the hours and stopped scheduling me. I'm so glad I had another job where the pay is higher and my co-workers are genuinely happy... I wanted Channel Zero because I wanted to learn but since half the team was bitter, it rarely happened.

Pros

The people you work with are great. And it gives you a basic understanding of the TV industry.

Cons

There is a lot of cons not going to lie. First off get ready to pretty much train yourself, because the person who is supposed to do it is off doing something else. And it is none of the others workers responsibility because there are many other important things that they should be doing. Get ready to never feel appreciated for when you do a good job you will never be told, but the moment you do the smallest thing wrong either expect an email or to be talked to. Also, you will be asked to do many tedious, not your responsibility jobs. If you are working part-time get ready to work every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. You will most likely never get a weekend off and if you do you won't get any extra shifts. Also when it comes you booking vacation it all depends if the full-time workers want the time off and if they do then you out of luck. They have so many opportunities to make this a positive and fun work environment and every time they fail and make it stressful and not a fun place to be at. You work alone a lot both during the day and at night. There is a big turnover rate of people in this position because it is a 24-hour position and shift work which isn't for everyone.

Zero in the name for a reason.

This place is toxic and the people who run it have no clue what they are doing. Do not work here
