Pros

The health benefits are outstanding and the take home car policy saves you a lot of money.

Cons

Just about everything else. Low pay, low morale, micromanaging, unsupportive administration, write ups for the most trivial reasons, lack of community support, high turnover coupled with high call volume, no promotional opportunities unless you're in the "good old boys" club, and broken/outdated equipment.

Pros

The best part about working for the county used to be the benefits but over the past 2 years that is not even the case. People look at the county or local government as a decent job on paper but realistically it is just "ok".

Cons

You are at the mercy of your department head. HR is a joke and your only hopes of advancement are if you are liked and not based upon your work ethics. This has bene the case with me in 3 different departments with the county over 12 years.
