Pros

CATF has a great philosophy and has been highly effective with some fantastic people who are among the brightest minds working in energy and climate

Cons

The Leadership is atrocious. Constant mismanagement, bad or no communication, a CEO who is more interested in new topics than actually running the organisation, a HR team that spends more time dealing in gossip than doing any actual work. No cost of living adjustment for staff, while the Leadership Team received bonuses. No performance review (despite HR promising one over 2 years ago) has meant that dozens of obvious duds in the organisation continue to be employed despite widespread calls for dismissal. There is also zero pathway for promotion or career development, leading to staff quitting on a weekly basis now.

Leadership Team Failing Staff

Pros

The mission is important, as is the work that is being done. The staff are incredible. Experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated to the mission. A lot of good work happens here, despite the lack of quality leadership and strategic direction.

Cons

Staff have not had performance reviews or either merit or COLA raises since at least 2020, even when surpassing fundraising and budget goals by a large margin. There are no clear goals or strategy for the organization; the leadership team says they've been working on a strategic plan for the last 18 months but there is still nothing to show for it. The same is true of their DEI work and other HR projects. The leadership team often says they are committed to transparency, but they share very little and keep saying "more to come." But nothing of substance every comes. Employees make well-thought out and planful suggestions on how to improve things, but leadership seems incapable of making any decisions to handle the rapid organizational growth. There is an over-reliance and over-spending on consultants, despite the major hiring explosion that has happened.
