Pros

Before the company was acquired by Battery Ventures, the role was perfect for somebody like myself. I had training for my first week and this helped me massively in understanding the company and how everything works. I liked my manager and the majority of people I worked with.

Cons

All the employees were lied to by the people at the top. When Clubessential was acquired, we were promised by the CEO that there would be no layoffs and that this would only be a positive move. 2 weeks later, the CEO steps down, then follows the CIO and finally, the president of the company. Alarm bells start ringing. With no prior warning, I'm called into one of the offices and told to leave the building - they assure me it's not performance based and that they simply have to let a lot of the company go. I'm instructed to collect my things and leave the building without talking to anybody. A life-changing thing to be told as you had moved to the city specifically for that job.

Not Getting Better

Pros

Nothing positive at this time.

Cons

Ever since Clubessential was acquired last year, things have gone downhill, and it’s not stopping any time soon. Morale is extremely low due to lack of communication, incompetent leadership, unrealistic workloads, and lack of compensation. Mass layoffs and management that is resistant and slow to change have led to workloads and deadlines that are overwhelming and getting worse by the day. The company doesn’t support employees. Don’t be fooled when they promise to promote you within six month or a year, because they have no intention of doing that. They offer nothing in the way of training or continuing education, and when they do promote employees, they pressure their people into taking promotions that don’t align with their interests, skills or career goals. Some upper managers lack any sort of knowledge or expertise that are required to do the job, and the only management tactic is to nag people into working harder. Upper management goes through the motions of getting employee feedback via online surveys, but no changes have been made to fix any of the glaring issues within the company, and things keep getting worse. The company is very controlling and closed-minded, refusing to take some very simple steps toward improving morale (being flexible about work hours and working from home).

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I'm disappointed we haven't quite connected with you in a more optimistic way about our company's future. Clearly the organization and ownership changes over the past year have been disruptive for you. Change is difficult. I understand the challenges change brings. I would respectfully disagree with your assessment that we don't support our employees or we only go through the motions of getting employee feedback or nothing has been changed for the better or we're closed minded. Those are not characteristics of the culture we're building together within Clubessential. The employee feedback provided through our eNPS survey is absolutely being used to shape our decisions and plans, including a forthcoming flex time and work from home policy. I promise you we'll continue to communicate on a regular basis and build on one of our core values of Being Exceptional in everything we do. Hopefully you got a sense of the promising changes we're implementing during the All Hands meeting last week. Clubessential is a great company with terrific customers and dedicated, hard working employees who want to help us succeed. If you'd like to discuss your specific concerns, please come see me. I hope you'll feel differently in the coming months.

Thriving on Lies

Pros

The employees in your department are great people and you will make great lasting friendships while working with them. Everyone here is going to go on to OTHER jobs and do amazing.

Cons

I'm basically here to say that the review of this company from Jan 3 titled "Great place to work solid leaders" is a review written by someone in upper management or HR trying to stifle employees who were treated poorly. Anyone who has negative feedback for this company was not unprofessional in their time here but was treated unprofessionally by their upper managers. Those who negative reviews were actually very hard workers who others looked up to. It is very sad to me that I work in a company with management who cannot apologize, admit they are wrong and writes anyone off who raises concerns or questions as "cancer". It's disappointing that we claim someone who can't handle feedback isn't a good fit for this company when clearly those in charge can't handle feedback. A large majority didn’t attend the holiday party because they did not want to spend time outside of work around the COO and accompanying drama. If you are looking for rewards and appreciation for your hard work you will have better luck at a restaurant. Employees who are still here DO know who is making comments and we support them

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I'm disappointed that you feel anyone is lying or attempting to silence employees asking questions or raising concerns. Those are behaviors that I will not tolerate from anyone, ever. I'm sorry you had to experience any level of management feedback or interactions that you felt were unprofessional. Having personally attended the company holiday party, I will say your observation about a large majority not attending, is not true. The party was very well attended, by a majority of employees, and everyone who attended seemed to have a great time. Sorry you chose not to join your co-workers for this team event. Hopefully we'll see you at the next event. Please keep coming forward with your suggestions and ideas for improvement at CE. I promise you the culture will support everyone's input. Our decisions won't be by committee, or full consensus, but your voice will, and should, be heard, considered, with feedback provided on final decisions. Thanks again for your timely and thoughtful feedback, Very helpful for me!
