Pros

Codex is a great place to do real, end-to-end applied AI and data science. In a short time, I got to build production-grade systems across very different domains - computer vision, document AI, LLM and RAG pipelines, and optimisation for a range of Australian businesses, all on AWS (Bedrock, SageMaker, Textract, Lambda). The work is genuinely impactful: projects delivered measurable results for clients, such as large reductions in processing time and cost, rather than staying as proofs of concept. There is a strong engineering culture around careful evaluation and keeping models grounded and reliable, which I really valued. You get a lot of ownership and autonomy, exposure to the full lifecycle from problem framing to deployment, and the chance to work directly with clients. Colleagues are smart, collaborative, and generous with their knowledge, so you learn very quickly. For anyone who wants to grow fast in applied AI and actually see their work used, it is an excellent environment.

Cons

As with most consulting, the pace is fast and you context-switch between clients and domains, which can be demanding at times. Being a lean team also means you wear several hats. For me, none of this outweighed how much I learned and enjoyed the work.

Pros

Codex has an equal-voice culture where I always felt comfortable speaking up and sharing ideas. This was a major contributor to my professional growth. In my case, I had the opportunity to benefit from external mentorship opportunities and career development support. The company genuinely invests in upskilling, not only within your area of expertise but across other disciplines as well. There is also a strong level of trust and autonomy, allowing employees to work without micromanagement. The incentive scheme is another positive aspect of the company, especially the support and encouragement provided for achieving AWS certifications.

Cons

The environment can be quite fast-paced at times.

Pros

Over the past four years, I’ve had the opportunity to take on a variety of challenging roles and work across some genuinely interesting projects. The business has evolved significantly, transitioning from a product-focused company to a pure consultancy, which has created strong learning opportunities and accelerated professional growth. The calibre of people is a standout. You are surrounded by capable, driven individuals who push you to improve, which I’ve found highly motivating. The culture is also a key strength. It is genuinely values-led from the top, with founders who actively shape and reinforce this. The organisation is flat, communication is open, and everyone is encouraged to contribute regardless of tenure or role. There is a strong sense of respect and inclusion in how people interact.

Cons

The transition to a consultancy model has come with its challenges. The pace is fast, expectations are high, and the environment may not suit everyone. Some individuals may find the intensity and level of accountability demanding, particularly if they prefer more structure or a slower pace.
