Pros

Getting to build relationships and rapport with the community members, feeling like you are truly make a difference in someone’s life, 4 ten hours shifts and often overtime ability to pick up. Freedom to run the site as you see fit, relaxed job at times but there is always something to be done. Being asked for advice and being able to share my own personal story or reasonings behind my choices. Compensation, PTO, self care is highly suggested. They hire anybody and give out many chances.

Cons

Management and upper level administration are not feet on the ground, they do not truly understand what goes on in the day to day events. Emotionally and mentally exhausting, burn out is real, having to make tough decisions about allowing people to stay or having to kick them back out to the streets for breaking whatever rules. Having to be comfortable around drugs and addiction and having an understanding of how to use narcan and having to remain calm and assess situations and do whatever you can do until EMTs arrive.
