Cons
No. 1, please note the review allegedly written by someone in "Legal" that posted on July 30, 2017 could not have been written by any employee in Legal. The Legal Department consisted of 4 people, including me, at that time. The only people that had been there long enough to have written that review are General Counsel himself or a paralegal, and it was not the paralegal. The fact that either GC himself (a member of the executive leadership team) or HR wrote that review tells you all you really need to know about Conn's. Conn's is a backwards and hastily-run corporation that nearly failed a few years ago. Conn's leadership claims to be on its way to recovery and greatness... Conn's is the quintessential big, bad company that 80s movies were made about. Management is concerned about one thing and one thing only: management. And of course making money , money, MONEY despite the costs to its employees and customers. Unless you are part of the current CEO's inner friends and family circle, do not be naïve and think you can come on board and make a meaningful difference to help turn this ship around. You will spend the majority of your days hitting roadblocks, being told "no," feeling marginalized, and will ultimately be forced to accept that failing businesses fail for a reason and might be best left for dead. The way this company treats its employees is ruthless and shameful to say the least. It does not matter if you're a sales associate, cashier, admin assistant or at the director level employee at the corporate headquarters. The mindset from the top-down is that people are more disposable than yesterday's trash (it costs money to have trash hauled away). They excuse this mindset and their ruthless approach to people management by referring to themselves as a "turnaround" company (so apparently that means you can't be decent) and by BRAGGING about their firing prowess at every opportunity ("We've switched out 28 of 32 directors!" etc.). Sure, some people probably needed to go for good reason, but I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many people disappeared during my 14-month tenure. No one (except for the select few) is "safe". People are thrown under the bus by their own managers to avoid the axe. Everyone is dreaming about and looking for their grand exit away from this place. Don't forget that Conn's requires all employees, including those in the corporate office, to work on holidays. They usually "forget" to tell newly-recruited employees and then pretend as if this is normal. Because again, it's a turnaround company so make sure you're present on July 4th, rather than BBQing with the family and celebrating America.
