Pros

The Founders are incredibly kind people and set a tone for a friendly culture and teamwork oriented environment. The Forums themselves, both in-person and virtually, are well run and executed- you can have faith in the product you're selling to your audience. In general, the team is full of smart and competent people willing to communicate and solve problems together. The remote work element was the best part and gives good work/life balance. For the production team, the compensation is more fair than other events services companies I've worked at. If you love Sales and lead research, you will succeed here.

Cons

Consero was recently acquired and the culture is changing. There is a lot of miscommunication. The rules and guidelines for best practices are not universal and change based on who you're working with. Different rules seem to apply differently across events and some of the managers are much more mico-manager style than others. Even ones I didn't work for often directly contradicted instructions from my direct boss.

Pros

Fantastic company culture, employees are all close to each other and a feeling of family has emerged. This is really the cornerstone of Consero, there are fantastic after hour events and a solid sense of team. Upper management is great, all three founders take time to develop relationships with employees and will invest in their success. Paul Mandell, the CEO and founder, is in an incredibly accessible boss, and will often take personal interest in those who prove they're invested. Commissions can be fantastic if you're doing well, earning potential is huge in their strategic partnership department. A lot of fun events after hours and happy-hours. Lastly, there's a nice travel component to US hot spots and Ireland.

Cons

As the Company is fairly young there are some retention issues that are hampering the company's growth. The learning curve is steep, and they take a big hit when they lose new employees who don't make it. In terms of working for Consero, many positions involve a heavy sales component that requires a large amount of cold calling, especially in the beginning. While management can be very flexible and rewards success, if you aren't doing well they can be quite harsh. Advancements will most likely solely be based off of metrics. Base pay is low, commissions offset this but are irregular and not great of every position. Benefits are also poor (to be expected for a start-up). PTO/ sick leave is poorly structured, and is bad even for an American company.

Pros

Great atmosphere, friendly coworkers, generally a fun place to work if you're interested in a career in sales. The CEO is such a nice guy, and really believes in the work that everyone's doing.

Cons

Interviewer will not tell you this is a telesales job. The 'hard work' here is performative in nature--telesales. They'll tell you it's a 'numbers game' at the beginning, until you 'build your network.' Going into the position, you'll have no idea what any of that means, because management is so wishy-washy during interview process. They sell you on the job. It can be a little high-school, and the office politics are sometimes confounded by the 'we work at a startup' mentality. If you're looking for an intellectually stimulating experience, run. It can feel like you're spending your day not doing anything meaningful when you've dialed your requisite amount of phone numbers and not a single person answered the phone. It's a great idea, but not for everyone. Don't let the zeal of working at a startup keep you from understanding where you'll be and what you'll be doing.
