I worked at County of Riverside full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great salary, benefits, retirement, and time off. Also many of the people in HR are amazing. Great place to work when good upper management is in place.

    Cons

Executive level management has become awful in the last year. Good people have been released or forced to resign so they can bring in their lackies. No integrity. They need to change their mission from People First to Our People First.

    Advice to Management

They won't listen. BOS and EO should be concerned.

I have been working at County of Riverside full-time for more than 10 years

      Pros

Pay. Don't have to work as hard as private sector because of the unions.

      Cons

Unionized, no incentive to work harder. Management for the most part would fail in the private sector but in-breeding is the norm. Won't hire someone really good for fear of looking bad. Mediocrity is the standard when a you are a unionized, public worker.

      Advice to Management

Get over yourselves. The workers don't need managers - get out of their way and show leadership to get the jobs done. Treat the employees with respect instead of trying to milk as many perks as you can for yourselves.

I have been working at County of Riverside full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

The benefits are really good and you have an amazing union to back you (just make sure to pay your share, it isn’t much). You get flex credits for health care and a retirement through CalPERS.

      Cons

They promote people who suck up instead of people who know what they are doing more often than not. That leaves a lot of supervisors or management who don’t listen to the workers who know what they’re talking about and create a lot of problems they continue to solve after it blows up.

      Advice to Management

Your ETs should be where you go first. And if everyone wasn’t so afraid of retaliation, they would probably speak up more.

I worked at County of Riverside full-time for more than 10 years

      Pros

Pay was consistent and health care plan was thorough.

      Cons

No room for advancement and unrealistic expectations from administrators. Benefits cost too much out of pocket for what you get.

      Advice to Management

Keep your ranks staffed and take care of your existing employees. If you remain understaffed, consider adjusting operation standards to match the workforce coverage.
