Pros

Like countless others have stated, individuals at CBS make the difference. Multiple paid company outings per year. Catered lunches or food trucks paid for by the company. There have been some improvements in the support department and it’s certainly getting better. Low performing employees were dismissed and those who do perform, are being promoted and rewarded.

Cons

It’s disappointing that the majority of complaints here have simply been dismissed until titles were mentioned (CEO, COO, CTO). I do see some positive changes, but the fact remains that jobs are being outsourced to help the bottom line and this was evident during a recent town hall meeting. I asked around and it turns out that testing and development for ALL existing major and new products is done overseas. How long before support and accounting are outsourced as well? Why stop there – might as well include sales and marketing so it’s right next to development. CBS claims that it is transitioning from a reseller to software company, but can you really call yourself a software company when the products you are creating are being outsourced? And yet, executives are protected and untouchable. If the bottom line is so important, shouldn’t the executives compromise and give up their car allowances? Why should the company pay for the CTO to live overseas in a luxury condo so he can brag about his exploits? Perception is reality and the reality is the serfs at the bottom work to make the CBS lords wealthier. If I’m wrong, prove it and I will gladly update my review.

Pros

Like others have stated, great co-workers (not managers) throughout the company that are welcoming and helpful. Free soft drinks, which can be a con.

Cons

The company has potential, but its plagued by its inability to mature and address serious systemic issues. CBS started out as a POS reseller and it excelled at it. It transitioned to, or at least tried to transition into a software company, but it’s not in their culture or DNA. Unfortunately, COO is oblivious. Help desk department has high turnover rate and pays wages below industry standard. It cost money each time you have hire and train new staff. If you want to justify this by ‘industry standards’, you’ll never be better than mediocre. Creepy CTO is having a mid-life crisis in the Philippines rather than focusing on his job. Nearly all development in Irvine has been outsourced overseas. Web based software services currently sold were poorly written and break often (quote from a former developer). Sales bring in deals but the company is good a losing those opportunities. Sexual harassment complaints get brushed aside with the help of the leadership. It’s surprising the big names that CBS works with within the restaurant and hospitality industry. The CEO must do an amazing job negotiating or selling the product at a discount because the company does not have the infrastructure to support what it sells.

Custom Business Solutions Response

We owe YOU a heartfelt apology. CBS would NOT be what it is today without the hard work, tremendous dedication and commitment that you and your predecessors performed your job with each and every day. One or more of your team members (present & past) has shared the opinion that indicates we do not appreciate/value your efforts. This is absolutely untrue; however, we have all heard the phrase “perception is reality” uttered in the hallways more than once. We will change that perception. CBS is a company in transition. We have felt the growing pains that accompany an organization that takes on the task of changing its business model while maintaining the original model. No company is without its own flaws and CBS is no exception. Errors will always pop up despite the best intentions. How we respond to these situations is a large part of why CBS is unique. We care about our customers and the product they buy from us. We as a team work swiftly and efficiently to rectify all issues that arise. We are challenged with tight deadlines and somehow manage to get everything done but we don’t always recognize those paving the way. We are thankful for all our employees. It is their creativity and drive for more than the industry standard for our software and services that make us successful. They are a large part of the solution we deliver every day. We do not say thank you enough. Thank you for taking the time to provide your honest feedback.
